Motherboard model G41M-VS3 from ASRock: specifications and specifications

An entry-level motherboard with a quality element base, an integrated graphics accelerator and a high degree of reliability from the eminent manufacturer of this product is the G41M-VS3 from ASRock. This solution is ideally suited for assembling inexpensive with acceptable level of performance of office personal computers. Also, in the presence of discrete graphics, a computer system based on this product could easily be turned into a gaming PC. It is about this motherboard in the future and will be discussed.

Appearance

Motherboard model G41M-VS3 Was made in a form factor called MicroATX. Its dimensions were 226 mm in height and 170 mm in width. Strictly in the center of this product was the north bridge of the set of system logic. It was hidden under an impressive aluminum radiator. Just above it in the center of the top half of the board was a socket LGA775 for CPU installation. To the left of it were wired ports, on top - power connectors, and on the right - slots in the amount of 2 pieces for RAM. Below, under the chip of the north bridge, there were slots for installing additional controllers.

Down, to the very edge of the board, the drive connection ports were displayed. To the right of the slots was a chip of the south bridge of the set of system logic. There were also grouped contacts for performing commutation with the front panel of the PC case.

Chipset chipset. Processor and socket models

The ASRock G41M-VS3 motherboard was based on a chipset, which included 2 chips. One of them is the G41, which in professional jargon was called the "northern bridge". It consisted of a dual-channel memory controller (it could address 8GB of RAM) and a peripheral controller.

The second component of the chipset is ICH7. He was responsible for interacting with the extension controllers and exchanging information with the front panel. As a socket in this case, there was a processor socket LGA775. To date, this solution is obsolete, but at the time this product was released, it was one of the most productive processor connectors.

An impressive set of central processing units supported ASRock G41M-VS3. Characteristics Indicate the support of such of them:

  • Celeron in single- and dual-core versions for this platform.
  • Dual-core Pentium in the performance of LGA 775.
  • Core 2 Duo. These chips were dual-core, but at the expense of higher frequencies, improved semiconductor chip architecture and increased cache ensured faster performance.
  • Core 2 Quad is already a 4-core processor solution.
  • Core 2 Extreme. This chip also consisted of 4 computational units. The presence of an unlocked CPU frequency multiplier allowed it to overclock and at times increase the speed of such a computing system.

Ports and Slots

The composition of G41M-VS3 Included such expansion slots:

  • 1 PCI-Express 16X slot for installing a discrete graphics system.
  • 1 PCI slot for installing obsolete modifications of additional controllers.

The list of peripheral ports included:

  • 2 PS / 2 connectors for the manipulator and wired keyboard.
  • One VGA connector for displaying the image with integrated graphics on the monitor display.
  • 4 universal USB ports.
  • 1 RJ-45 network connector.
  • 3 jacks for organizing the speaker system.
  • One obsolete COM port for connecting out-of-date peripherals.

Integrated graphics adapter

The G41M-VS3 board was equipped with an integrated graphics accelerator. His model GMA X4500 from Intel. It was part of the G41 chipset. The speed of this graphical solution was minimal. The maximum amount of random access memory that such an integrated adapter could address was 1.7 GB. He was perfect for office tasks. Also with its help you could watch video or play the most simple computer hardware from the point of view of hardware. For something more, such a computer system should be equipped with discrete graphics, which in this case should be installed in a PCI Express slot of 16X.

Summary

It was most expedient to use G41M-VS3 as part of office computers. She had everything for this: an integrated graphics system, an integrated network card, a good degree of functionality, a cost of about 6,000 rubles. In all other cases it was better to buy more expensive products with improved parameters.
