Krivoy Rog - a city of monuments and memorials

In this large industrial city there are a lot of historical and memorial structures. They include various monuments, memorials, monuments, stelae, memorial complexes and mass graves. All these objects have not only an educational-patriotic meaning, but also an aesthetic, because they are based on sculpture as one of the trends in art.

In total, there are over a hundred such objects in Krivoy Rog. Including - 47 sculptural monuments, 43 commemorative signs, 17 memorials and mass graves. They are dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, prominent state and municipal figures, writers and poets, composers, etc. The most famous monuments of Krivoy Rog are the "Victory" monument, the Heroes' Stela, monuments to Cossack Rogu, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Alexander Pushkin, Alexander Polu , The memorial "Memory Clock" and others.

It should be noted that earlier Krivoy Rog was the leader city in the post-Soviet space by the number of statues installed by VI Lenin. In total, there were 13 in the city! However, in 2014 a wave of destruction of monuments of the Soviet era swept across Ukraine, which was named "Leninopad" in the people and the media. She did not pass by Krivoy Rog either. As a result, all the monuments to Lenin, as well as the sculptures of Dzerzhinsky, Artem and Karl Liebknecht were demolished in the city .

Nevertheless, in the streets and parks of the city there are still many beautiful and majestic monuments. This monument "Victory" 14 meters high, set in honor of the liberation of Krivoy Rog from the fascist invaders, the unique Stela Heroes, adorned with 62 Krivoy Rog minerals, a lyrical monument to the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and many others.

On the tablet near the most significant monument for Krivoy Rog monument is written: "Cossack Horn". It is this Cossack who is considered the founder of the city. And allegedly in honor of his nickname was named and the settlement itself on the banks of the rivers Ingulets and Saksagan.

Was there really such a person, it is not known exactly. However, many Krivorozhans do not doubt its existence. Legend also says that the Cossack Horn owned a tavern in place of the modern city center, which often drove the chumak.

The monument to Horn in Krivoy Rog depicts a Cossack with a horse. The sculpture is made of bronze and is mounted on a massive block of ferruginous quartzite. The height of the monument is about five meters, and its total weight (together with the pedestal) is 65 tons.

History of the monument

The monument to Horn in Krivoy Rog was established only in 2011. Although the idea of perpetuating the legendary founder of the city appeared in the early 90's at the then mayor of Krivoy Rog - Grigory Gutovsky. The author of the sculptural composition became the famous architect A. Vasyakin. The monument was to be installed in the park named after the newspaper "Pravda" in the historical center of the city.

However, the deep economic crisis of the 1990s prevented this idea from being realized. Reanimated it could only in 2011. The monument was finished, cast from bronze and solemnly opened near the city executive committee on the eve of the City Day.
