Mogilev-Podolsky is one of the most beautiful cities in the Vinnytsia region, where it is located, but also throughout Ukraine. Until 1923 he wore such a simple name as Mogilev, and in the common people he was called Mogilev on the Dnieper or Dnieper Mogilev, in the 18th and 19th centuries was known as the Mogilev district. From the west it borders on Moldova. The total area of the city is almost 2200 hectares, and the height above sea level is about 80 meters.

First population

The first inhabitants of the city of Mogilev-Podilsky (map perfectly shows its location) settled on its territory in 1450. The city itself was erected only in 1595, the first building was the castle of Jeremiah Mogila, in honor of which he was named. Then followed the arrangement and ennobling of the surroundings, after which they moved into the possession of the founder's son-in-law, Stefan Potocki. Between 1654 and 1667, the war between the Poles and the Russians took place, but the Cossack-Russian troops, united with the Tatars, managed to repel the enemy attack of the Pole. Residents of Mogilev on the Dniester did not avoid the uprising against the feudal lords, which occurred in 1768, the organizers of which were Maxim Zheleznyak and Ivan Gaunt.

City `s history

During the reign of the Russian Empire, the Mogilev-Podolsky (Ukraine) was sold to Russia by Poland (1795), after which it became part of the Great Empire. And a year later he was awarded the status of the county of Podolsky province. Thanks to the developed agriculture and extensive wheat fields already in the middle of the XIX century Mogilev becomes the largest city for the production of bread. In 1881, construction of railroads began here, shipping lines appeared. This contributed to the rapid development of the industry of the county town, various enterprises began to be built, such as a plant for casting pig iron, for the production of sugar and others. In 1922, Mogilev is a part of the Ukrainian SSR and in a year it acquires its new name, used until now - Mogilev-Podolsky. Part of the Vinnitsa region, the city became only in 1932, and by 1940 its industry had grown tenfold.

During World War II

During the Second World War, this city was first brutally fired by the enemy, and after it was occupied by German troops, as well as by Romania, after which it was assigned to the territory of this state, and the entire population was constantly subjected to humiliation and cruel treatment by invaders who entered the city. In March 1944, Mogilev-Podolsky was returned to the USSR by soldiers of the Second Ukrainian Front.

Industry after the war

After the war, the industry of Mogilev-Podolsky began to develop with new force, new factories were built on machine building, instrument making, sunflower oil and canned food, wines, and others. Began to open factories for the manufacture of furniture, fabrics and nonwovens, household appliances and chemicals. Culture and education also did not remain standing still, an assembly college, a technical college of Soviet trade, and a school for training medical personnel were opened in the city. All these plants are still the mainstay in the urban economy, but they have also been added new enterprises of food and light industry, a factory for the manufacture of confectionery.

Transport

The city of Mogilev-Podilsky has a well-functioning public transport, represented in the form of several route lines. The railway system, which maintains communication with Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Chisinau, is also well developed here. Trains are carried out along the railroad tracks as goods-freight, and passenger transportation to other cities, and settlements of the suburbs. Bus communication is carried out on two routes, one of which leads to Vinnitsa, and the other - to Moldova.

sights

A lot of monuments, churches, monasteries, located in all corners of the city of Mogilev-Podolsky, make it particularly attractive for tourists. It is here that is the only monument in Ukraine to John Lennon. Important Orthodox Orthodox architectural structures, such as the Nikolaevsky Cathedral, the Regimental Church, the Holy Assumption Monastery and others have been erected. And in a small village of Bronnitsa everyone can visit the estate of the great field-marshal of the Russian army of Wittgenstein.
