Minerals of the Stavropol Territory: building materials, hydrocarbons and mineral waters

It does not matter at what age you are studying your native land. It is important to know what it is. Where is and what is rich. What are the minerals of the Stavropol Territory. For the 4th grade or for any other age category, this information will be interesting.

Main resources of the region

The greater part of the Stavropol region lies within the same elevation. The northern and eastern parts of it smoothly pass into the lowlands, and the southern and south-western parts into the foothills of the Greater Caucasus. Minerals of the Stavropol Territory are found in three hundred deposits. As a percentage of approximately 40 percent of Stavropol's resources, materials for construction, on the one hand, and oil and gas, on the other, are accounted for. The tenth part of resources is water. The remaining tenth is in other mineral resources. In addition, deposits of polymetallic ores contain radioactive uranium in small amounts.

Construction Materials

If you list the minerals of the Stavropol Territory, you should start with the resources that are used in construction. Near the Stavropol, a quarry is being developed in Pelagiada. Here, construction sand is mined, as well as gravel and stone.

Rare city of Stavropol does not have available houses built from the materials of this quarry. The valleys of the Kuban and Malki rivers are rich in significant deposits of sand and gravel mixtures. In total, there are over two hundred deposits in the territory of Stavropol, in which building materials such as sand and gravel mixture, construction sand and stone, expanded clay are extracted. The volume of these deposits exceeds 800 million cubic meters. With current volumes of extraction from the bowels of the earth, these reserves will last for more than thirty years. At the same time, a significant number of deposits can be explored further to increase reserves.

Oil production in Stavropol Territory

The first answer of local residents to the question: "What are the minerals in the Stavropol Territory?" - will be "oil." The neighboring Krasnodar Territory is considered to be the first region of Russia, where oil production was started in an industrial way. It happened in the middle of the nineteenth century. Not much later, in the same century, the Stavropol region joined the oil-producing regions of Russia. To date, forty-eight oil fields are known. The reserves of "black gold" are estimated at eighty million tons. The most famous deposit of Stavropol is Praskoveiskoye. It is the most significant. But most of the deposits are valued as unprofitable, because the oil in them is located in hard-to-reach places. However, the existing volumes of production are so high that oil reserves, according to experts, remained only for a decade.

Gas fields

Hydrocarbon-bearing minerals of the Stavropol Territory, in addition to oil, also include gas. Seventeen deposits of gas with a capacity of almost fifty million cubic meters. The largest reserves were found in three deposits - Mirnensky, Sengileevsky and Severo-Stavropol-Pelagiada. The material component of the wells is significantly worn out and is not updated. The production of deposits reaches seventy percent. All this has led to the fact that over the past quarter century the volume of production has decreased by half. The current state of things does not allow us to hope for an increase in gas production in the coming years.

Solid minerals

Some minerals of the Stavropol Territory are quite unique. In particular, this definition refers to deposits of titanium-zirconium sand. Less than ten percent of this type of raw materials is extracted from the Russian bowels, the rest is imported. But in the Stavropol Territory this sand is available, thanks to the Beshpagir deposit.

The thickness of the reservoirs of this field reaches a five-meter mark, and the deposits themselves are located at a depth of twenty meters. Also it is necessary to pay attention to deposits of quartz sand from Spassky and Blagodarnoye deposits. They are also rare, because they have excellent quality: they have a significant amount of silica and practically do not include impurities. Therefore, its application is broad. In addition to the standard production of glass containers, quartz sand from Stavropol finds use in the manufacture of devices for medicine and optics, mirrors and crystal.

Hydromineral potential

If you ask the residents of the rest of Russia whether they know what they are getting in the Stavropol Territory, they will certainly remember the mineral waters. In the foothills of the Caucasus, a virtually isolated territory was formed by natural means, which became known as the Caucasian Mineral Waters. On a rather small space there are a lot of sources, more than forty kinds.

Here there are sources of canteens, medical-dining rooms and simply medicinal waters. Among them, there are also radon, silicic, ferruginous, iodide-bromide, bitter-saline. The Tambukan mud deposit also attracts visitors from all over Russia. One and a half million vacationers annually visit a relatively small area of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, while less than twenty percent of the region's hydromineral potential is used to meet their demand.
