Master's the what?

The modern education system in Russia has undergone significant changes in the past 20 years. This process is especially noticeable in the context of higher education institutions. Earlier, the acquisition of higher education was reduced to a single degree - a specialist. At the same time, after vocational schools or technical schools, the title sounded like "junior specialist", and after graduating from a higher educational institution, the institute became a "specialist". Just. Laconic. Clear. But it is absolutely inapplicable for the European system of education that has been formed for centuries. Therefore, diplomas issued earlier, could not be quoted abroad on a par with there - very much incomparable were the categories of education.

Everything changed with gaining independence and the course taken to integrate into the European process of training and training of qualified specialists. Now in the Russian education there are different degrees - "bachelor", "specialist" and "master". What is the last of them? Let us dwell on this issue in more detail.

Master's degree is a stage of higher professional education. It follows the Bachelor's degree and is designed to deepen the acquired professional knowledge. If the bachelor's degree is considered, in general, a complete higher education, allowing to work according to the profile obtained, then the master's degree is a stepping stone to a scientific career. It is in this regard, after the completion of the 4th year in many universities, the division of the flow of students into two directions - "specialists" and "masters" - follows. The first receive additional knowledge, focused on practical skills in the profession and their application. Masters also devote their training to grinding knowledge as such, as well as studying the scientific method, the methods of research in specialization, in order to continue to receive the opportunity to enter postgraduate studies and continue research activities.

Usually entry into the Master's program is conducted on a competitive basis and at the request of the student. That is, the quality of bachelor's work, the average score for the previous 4 years of study, as well as the student's personal achievements in the training field are taken into account. Training in master's specialties can last from one year to two, and ends with writing a master's degree work - a full-fledged scientific work of the student, which he created during his studies, and in many universities - also passing the qualification exam in the specialty.

It is not necessary to consider thus, that the magistracy is some higher education against the background of "experts" or "bachelors". This is not true. It's just that this stage of study is sharpened for scientific work, and the emphasis is on the theoretical foundations of the profession, often at the expense of practical skills. In this case, the Master's program does not actually meet in absentia. According to the norms of modern education, this degree is obtained solely by training in a hospital. Although, of course, there may be exceptions for private sector education institutions.

In general, the magistracy is not only a way to join the scientific life as a young qualified specialist in its field, but also a good preparation of the student for scientific life, the specifics of writing works, conducting research and searching for information and processing it. It does not give any superblag, but in order to continue its education further in any foreign university, obtaining this degree will always only benefit.
