March 12 - Day of the employee of the penitentiary system

The Criminal Executive System of Russia (UIS) is one of the guarantees of the security of citizens and the successful development of the state. In one form or another at all times in a civilized society there were cases of crime and punishment. Over the past centuries, employees of the penitentiary system not only stood guard over the rest of the country's population, but also tried to fulfill its main function - to return to society of respectable citizens. In its current form, it counts down its existence from March 12, 1879 - the day of signing by Alexander II of the decree on the establishment of the prison department, which united and structured all the correctional institutions of the country. Therefore, March 12 is the Day of the Penal System of Russia. It was established in 2010.

A bit of history

UIS of Russia was part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, however, due to international obligations, the country was transferred to the control of the Ministry of Justice. Henceforth, the department does not have the task of providing the labor force of construction or participating in the struggle against the opposition, so it can contribute to the construction of a rule-of-law state. Now this is a more prestigious system open to the media, which is guarding the law and interests of the population.

Uneasy weekdays

The day of the employee of the penitentiary system is not only called upon to draw attention to imperceptible and important work, but also to encourage the call of the public for educational work and the provision of social assistance to the released and imprisoned. Every day FSIN employees carry out tasks for the correction, protection, convoying, medical care of prisoners, education and retraining, as well as attracting them to work. Now there is a concept aimed at the development of MIS, calculated until 2020. In accordance with it, the activities of the FSIN should be close to international standards and promote the development of society. The main directions of work of the federal service employees will be such actions: active use of punishments that do not involve deprivation of liberty, prevention of the popularization of criminal subculture and stimulation of the lawful behavior of convicted and released. The document presupposes not only an improvement in the situation of persons in custody, but also an increase in the remuneration of workers in penitentiary institutions. The established Day of the employee of the penitentiary system certainly contributes to the achievement of these goals.

The present and future of MIS

The number of employees of the MIS is regulated in accordance with the world practice and the laws of Russia, taking into account the high workload when working with convicts. To date, the staff of the existing FSIN staff numbers more than 300 thousand people. Graduates of higher and secondary vocational schools are ready to replace them. Thanks to the enlightenment activity and purposeful policy of the state, the profession is becoming more prestigious.
