Lumbosacral radiculitis

Radiculitis is a pathological process, a disease of the peripheral nervous system that occurs as a result of squeezing roots, leaving the spinal cord. The most common cause is osteochondrosis, in which loss of elasticity of the intervertebral discs causes trauma to these roots. Radiculitis is characterized by pain, movement disorders and impaired sensitivity.

Depending on the localization, the following forms are distinguished:

• cervical,

• cervico-brachial,

• thoracic,

• lumbosacral radiculitis.

The latter occurs most often. Lumbosacral radiculitis causes the occurrence of pain in the lower back, buttock. Sometimes the pain syndrome can "give" in the leg. Pain localized in the waist, cause tension in the intervertebral muscles, which affects the development of the limitation of mobility of the spine. When walking, the patient feels severe pain, tries to bend the leg in standing position, walks in small steps.

Most often this disease affects people of working age. For the first time acute symptoms can then quickly transform into chronic lumbosacral radiculitis, which will have a recurrent course.

The diagnosis and treatment should be carried out by a neurologist, since similar pain can be signs of other serious diseases.

Lumbar sciatica: treatment

His therapy should be carried out in a comprehensive manner and be aimed at eliminating what led to the onset of the disease. Lumbosacral radiculitis can be caused by various causes: trauma, osteochondrosis, infection, intoxication, diseases of the spine of various genesis and so on. Therapy of this pathology is also determined by the stage of the disease.

Lumbosacral radiculitis should be treated long and under the careful supervision of an experienced specialist.

In the complex treatment of this pathology, analgesics, physiotherapeutic procedures, spinal traction, massage, exercise therapy, manual therapy and hirudotherapy are used.

Lumbar sciatica most patients treats with three components:

- reduces the load on the spine,

- heat

- and the use of anti-inflammatory drugs.

A few days later, the pain in the spine subsides. However, this is not enough. Treatment should not only reduce pain, but also strengthen the muscles of the back, give mobility to the spine, which is achieved through physical therapy and manual therapy. In general, systematic training in exercise therapy only strengthens the musculoskeletal apparatus, which is a remarkable preventive of this pathology.

Extension of the spine provides a reduction in the load on the axis of the spine, which reduces pressure on the intervertebral discs, providing peace. This unloading causes a decrease or complete disappearance of pain in the waist and legs.

Lumbosacral radiculitis is also treated with folk remedies. Various compresses are applied, so-called woolen belts, which warm, and due to the place of irritating action improve blood supply to the damaged area of the spine, thereby reducing pain, reducing edema. Compresses are effective in radiculitis, and in use are simple, which allows them to be used at home.

With a significant swelling of the tissues, hirudotherapy can be used: the total course of treatment will be about 10 procedures. Already after 3 procedures, pain reduction is noted.

The use of medications removes the pain symptom, providing only a temporary recovery. Therefore, after treatment with medicines, it is necessary to take a course of therapeutic physical training or massage.
