Mantoux vaccination: norm, deviation

All parents try to carefully monitor the health of their child. And for this there is a huge number of different ways. One of them is the periodic inoculation of the baby.

About Mantoux

First of all, I want to tell you about what the Mantoux test is. This is an injection, which is done to determine if there is a tuberculous infection in the body. Under the skin of the child is introduced a special allergen, which shows a certain reaction. That's because of this, you can determine whether everything is in order with health. It should be noted that this vaccination for children is mandatory until they reach adulthood. And since Mantoux is not an inoculation, but a test, due to which the reaction of the child's organism to the introduced bacteria of tuberculin is studied, it is done even when the baby is contraindicated in any vaccination.

Preparation and procedure

How should Mantoux vaccine be produced ? The norm is when the pediatrician looks at the child beforehand and concludes that he is healthy and ready for vaccination. If the student has certain problems, the sample should be postponed for a while. To conduct all operations with the baby should only a doctor. The patient during the procedure should be in the sitting position, the injection is done in the arm, in the forearm. Bacteria are injected under the skin. Several days after the manipulations, the place where the injection was made is prohibited to wet, smear or glue with adhesive tape.

Reaction of the body

It should be noted that Mantoux vaccine is absolutely safe. The norm is when there are no changes in the body: there should be no temperature, a general malaise, as, for example, when DTP is vaccinated, when such symptoms can be observed. But the most important is the place of injection. Depending on how it is, doctors make certain conclusions.

Place of injection

After a certain time after the test (72 hours), the child should appear to the attending physician or specially trained nurse, so that an examination is carried out. So, if the Mantoux vaccine was given, the norm is when there is no papule ("button", "tubercle") at the site of the injection or there is a small reaction of no more than 1 mm in size. If this area of the hand is a little red, swollen and becomes a size of 5 mm, the reaction is considered doubtful, if more - positive. There are situations when the "button" grows to 15 mm, it is considered excessive, hyperergic effect.

On the consequences

If the child has a positive Mantoux reaction, the parents should not panic. This fact is not yet 100% proof that the body is really affected by this disease. However, it is nevertheless necessary to take a more careful look at the problem. It is best for the child not to contact tuberculosis patients, not to be in the places of their large accumulation. After the results, if necessary, the baby with the parents goes to the TB doctor for treatment, because getting rid of the disease in the early stages is not so difficult.

Contraindications

Knowing what Mantoux vaccine can be (the norm and deviations are indicated above), parents should also remember that not every child can be vaccinated. So, if there are skin rashes on the body, the kid is sick or just recently had a viral infection, and was in quarantine, it can be vaccinated only after 30 days after full recovery. Also, you should not do this with other vaccinations.

Do I need a vaccination?

Every parent should understand that Mantoux's test is very important. Reaction to a shot can tell a lot about what. Thanks to her, it is possible to prevent or cure in the early stages such a serious illness as tuberculosis. Therefore it is desirable to vaccinate your baby every year to save his health.
