Leipzig University: faculties, photo

Leipzig University was founded in 1409 and is one of the oldest universities in Germany. It is an interdisciplinary educational institution with an international status, dynamic, diverse, modern and at the same time faithful to traditions.

On his ambitious path of becoming one of the best European universities, he relied mainly on a wide range of subject areas, the combination of traditional academic disciplines with new ones, active cooperation at the international level, and work with various research laboratories. In different years, the diploma of the University of Leipzig was given to Friedrich Nietzsche, H.E. Gellert, Angela Merkel, Johanna Vanka, and others.

Currently, the University of Leipzig (address: Ritterstrabe 26, 04109 Leipzig) has 14 faculties and 128 departments (institutes). Training is conducted by more than 35,000 people, with about 4,500 working in a hospital at an educational institution. The most popular and oldest are the following faculties.

Faculty of Theology

It exists exactly the same as the University itself in Leipzig, which is quite natural. In medieval Europe, the doctrine of faith and religion was given almost paramount importance. The faculty is characterized by a large internal variety of sub-disciplines. They are like the branches of a tree's crown diverge in different directions, but they have one initial starting point.

Faculty of Law

This faculty was opened several years after the formation of the Leipzig University itself, and is one of the oldest in the educational institution. It should be noted the commercial orientation of its programs. Here, special emphasis is placed on studying the law of the banking market and capital, corporate and tax law, insolvency (bankruptcy) legislation. The faculty includes eleven institutes, including advocates, broadcasting rights, German and international private law, banking and capital markets, the environment and planning legislation, state and administrative law.

Faculty of History, Arts and Oriental Studies

One of the most prestigious and voluminous faculties of all that Leipzig University of Applied Sciences has. It was founded in 1993, it includes 15 institutes. The faculty is based on three so-called pillars: the study of history, art, music, theater and regional studies (including ethnology and religious studies). It is characterized by a wide variety of disciplines, and also possesses important museum collections. Institutes: Egyptology, African studies, study of religions, oriental studies, art education, theatrical studies, art history, etc.

Faculty of Philology

Possessing not the largest number of institutes, the Faculty of Philology of the University has become among the most numerous in terms of the number of students studying. It is highly valued not only in Germany, but also abroad. The idea of the faculty is the unity of teaching and research, it is based both on the traditions of the institution and on new promising directions, the functioning of the system of interdisciplinary centers of the university is being realized. Innovative programs are developed in cooperation with research centers in Germany. Leipzig University (see photo in the article) has such institutes at the Faculty of Philology: American Studies, Applied Linguistics, British Studies, German Language and Literature, Classical Studies and Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Romance Studies, Slavic Studies, and Herder Institute.

Faculty of Education

Work on it is built according to the principle of "teaching based on research" and is determined by three central themes: the development of knowledge, professionalization and internationalization. The faculty has numerous international connections, including in Eastern and Central Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The objectives of the training are realized through programs for the exchange of students and teachers. Institutes: education, pedagogical sciences, preschool and primary, special and inclusive education.

Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences

This faculty of the University of Leipzig opened also relatively recently - in 1994. At the moment, about 3,500 students are enrolled in it, and it is one of the largest in the educational institution. Institutes (communications and media, studying culture, philosophy, political science, regional studies and sociology) offer training in several programs, including "European Studies" and "World Studies".

Faculty of Economics and Management

One of the most prestigious and sought-after faculties of the university trains specialists in the field of management science, economics, business information systems and business education. In addition, advanced training programs on urban management, insurance and small business development are offered. The faculty has extensive contacts with leading European universities and successfully participates in the EU ERASMUS program. Institutes: empirical economic research, public finance and management, theoretical economics, accounting, finance and taxation, banking and trade, management of relationships and services, information systems, economic policy, management training and business education, etc.

Faculty of Medicine

In July 2015, the University of Leipzig, or rather its medical faculty and the city hospital that existed at it, celebrated a joint big anniversary - 600 years from the moment of formation. At the moment, more than 3000 people attend the training. The University Hospital is one of the largest healthcare institutions in Saxony. The faculty has 22 institutes, including clinical pharmacology, forensic medicine, physics and biophysics, biochemistry, anatomy, brain research, and others.

Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy

The history of the faculty began more than 300 years ago, and now among its graduates are outstanding European scientists. Training conditions, equipment and educational program were brought to the most modern world standards in 1999. The oldest are the institutes of organic, inorganic, analytical, physical chemistry.

Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences

The oldest faculty was opened by one of the first in 1409. And since then, research and scientific experiments within the walls of its audiences have not stopped. The epoch of the prosperity of the Institute of Physics can be called the 20th century, when Ludwig Boltzmann, Gustav Hertz, Otto Wiener, Werner Heisenberg conducted their research there. Currently, the educational process is conducted in German and English, about 1,200 students from 38 countries are trained.

Above are not described all the departments that the University of Leipzig has. The faculties differ in their abundance and cover a wide variety of industries. This allows you to study science in terms of close internal and extensive interdisciplinary connections.
