Lake Lama: description and features

Lake Lama, whose photo is in this article, is the most beautiful and famous freshwater reservoir in Taimyr. He is considered one of the Russian miracles. The history of the lake, enveloped in many legends, begins about a hundred million years ago.

Name of the lake

In the language of the Tungus and Evenks, sounding the name of the lake is very similar to the word meaning the ocean or the sea. On the maps that existed before the revolution, the lake was called by another name - Davydovo. Sometimes it is called the Taimyr Baikal.

Location of the lake

Lake Lama on Taimyr is on the west side of Putorana Plateau. Approximately one hundred and twenty kilometers northeast of Norilsk. The reservoir is of tectonic origin and is located in the basin between the mountains. On the one hand, the lake is surrounded by the mountains of Mikchangda, on the other - Lamskie. The height of the peaks is from 450 to 800 meters.

Description of the lake

The lake has the shape of a long 80-kilometer snake. The width between the shores is about fourteen kilometers. The narrowest sections are measured in hundreds of meters. Lake Lama, whose depth is 300 meters, has a total area of 318 square kilometers.

The shore line is uneven, rugged, 200 kilometers long. The banks are steep, high and rocky. Many break off right at the water's edge and go under it by sheer cliffs. Sloping only western shores. There is an average and small pebble, you can find huge boulders and small slides of sand-gravel material.

From mountain cracks in the pond many rivers fall, forming picturesque waterfalls, the height of which reaches sixty meters. They are often called "crying rocks". They impress with their crystal clear water, beauty and power. Lake Lama is surrounded by hills. In some places, spruce forests or birch woodlands grow on the banks. You can find berry bushes and larch. Ledum grows in the undergrowth. On the slopes of the mountains grows like a bright carpet, blueberries and lingonberries. Fungi also occurs quite a lot.

Lake Lama is associated with other water bodies: Small and Kapchuk and small rivers. For eight months a year the reservoir is covered by a thick meter ice crust. It melts only by the middle of June. The lake is navigable. Once a week, on the waters of the Lama, tourists come on excursions on small boats called trams.

The lake is constantly replenished with rain water, snow and melting ice. In spring, the water level begins to rise even during the freeze-up. Its duration is from 200 to 220 days. Even in summer the water temperature in the lake does not exceed seven degrees and is characterized by low mineralization. Saturation with oxygen is high, close to exceeding the threshold.

Water World

The water vegetation of the lake is very diverse. This is typical for all reservoirs on the Putorana Plateau. Zooplankton mainly consists of copepods (cyclopoids and calanids). It is also represented by Kolovratky and Vetvistous crustaceans. But zooplankton in Lake Lama has a low biomass.

Mysteries of the pond

The water in the lake Lama is crystal clear, transparent, cold and fresh. This is all the more surprising, because there is a thick layer of salt on the bottom of the reservoir. This is one of the mysteries of the reservoir, which scientists have not yet guessed.

To the lake Lama, psychics and esoterics come very often. They are sure that this pond is a source of enormous strength and a unique reservoir of otherworldly energy. Lake Lama is also of interest to ufologists who believe that alien ships land on it . Ufologists even created their base near the lake. They also assume that there is a base of aliens at the bottom of the lake.

Fishing on the lake

Most often on a pond come lovers of fishing. There are a lot of fish in the lake. Most of all they catch here:

  • Grayling;
  • Nelma;

  • Pink salmon;
  • Muxun.

More often than not, fishermen go just behind the char. Catch a large individual from three to seven kilograms can anyone, even a beginner. Golets are best caught in the early morning from 6-7 hours or late in the evening, by spinning. Loaches on Lake Lama become the most active after the ice comes off. And also in the autumn, in September, until the water is under the ice crust.
