Kodelak preparation: instructions for use

Kodelak is an antitussive drug that has an expectorant effect. It is based on such plant raw materials as the medicinal herb of thermopsis, which contributes to the liquefaction of phlegm. In addition, among the components of the drug is familiar to everyone baking soda, which helps to disinfect the respiratory tract, and codeine contributes to the elimination of cough syndrome. Thus, Kodelak, the instruction for use of which is given below, is recommended for children from three years old and adults suffering from severe cough against the background of ARI, bronchitis or viral diseases.

This drug is produced in tablets or syrup, the second option is more preferable for children. In addition to thermopsis, codeine and soda, it contains licorice root and thyme extract, herbs that promote more effective sputum discharge.

As in any other drug, there are contraindications. For example, the Code of Practice does not recommend the instruction for use to children under three years of age, since it can cause them to depress the respiratory center, and hence the serious consequences. Do not take it with acute pneumonia, silicosis or tuberculosis. Before starting treatment, consult a doctor. It is not allowed to drink alcohol at the same time. Pregnant and lactating people are not recommended to take Kodelak's medicine, since his influence on the mother and child's organism has not been fully studied at this time. You can not simultaneously take this drug and funds aimed at diluting sputum. The main effect of the kodelak is to suppress the cough reflex, while sputum is not removed from the bronchi and lung tissue.

The optimal option for taking this medication is once a day, before bedtime. This will ease coughing attacks during rest. If it is necessary to use during the day, the dose needed per day is divided into 2-3 doses, and is drunk with an interval of 8-12 hours during meals. The maximum length of the course is 10 days, otherwise it is possible to get used to the medicine. Dosage is prescribed according to age.

Children under 5 years are recommended to take 5 ml per day, up to 8 years - 10 ml, up to 10 years - 15 ml, over 12 years - up to 20 ml. Adults are more often prescribed Kodelak tablets, the instruction of which recommends taking the drug 1 tablet at the time of food intake or a few minutes before, 3 times a day. Approximate duration of the course should not be more than 5 days, before you increase the duration of the drug, you should consult a doctor. In the case when coughing attacks increase only by night, you can limit yourself to a single use of the medicine in the evening.

There may be allergic reactions, such as itching or burning, skin rash. On the part of the digestive system, side effects are manifested as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation or dry mouth. In case of an overdose, wash the stomach within a short time. The drug is stored at room temperature, not exceeding 25 degrees, the place should not be available for sunlight.
