Isothermal booth with own hands

The isothermal booth is an integral part of transport when transporting various perishable products, frozen semi-finished products, goods from the pharmaceutical industry in freight or small-tonnage vehicles. Also in such vans carry floral products.

Construction of vans

Modern models, which are equipped with modern trucks, have sufficiently thick walls. They perfectly keep the right temperature. A thick profile of galvanized steel is used as the inner skin. This profile is rather rigid and qualitative, it is not oxidized and perfectly withstands the chemical effect. However, in addition to the profile, plastics or stainless steel can be used as the skin.

Frameless van

In Europe, the isothermal booth is made using a special, frameless technology. A special, pre- bent profile is used. It has a lighter weight than the conventional profile by more than 30%. Although the weight of the van is quite light, but all the connections are strong enough. As fasteners use galvanized metal. As a fastening base used solid metal skids, which are fixed on the frame of the car along the entire length.

Isothermal box of sandwich panels

These vans are mostly used together with additional refrigeration equipment. As a thermal insulation material here is used foam polyurethane. It is pumped under pressure between the inner and outer panels. This allows many times to improve the characteristics of the booth, and also provides high strength and reliability of the entire structure.

Using special formulas, you can calculate the thickness of the body wall, so that the temperature is maintained throughout the trip. Especially such preservation is important for the transport of medicines and perishable food products . Here it is necessary to maintain it, close to zero degrees. Isothermal booth is a thermos that reliably keeps the temperature.

Manufacture of such bodies for popular brands of cargo chassis. These are Mercedes, Gazelle, Kamaz, MAZ, GAZ and other cars. But most of all these vans are created under the "Gazelle".

Stages of production

The production of isothermal booths, which could keep the temperature well, is produced at various enterprises using international standards and European technologies. Also, high-quality thermal insulation materials are used.

To make a good booth that can confidently keep the set temperature, you must first check the sandwich panels for consistency with quality. This is done in the manufacturing process with the help of ultrasonic technology. So it turns out to find defects and voids in this material. In production at the factory, multiple calculations are still performed in laboratories.

The floor of the van

In addition to the walls, special attention is paid to the floor of the body. Often it must be wooden. Further on the technology, the floor will be covered with a special additional material, and then the top will be covered with a galvanized steel sheet. The sheet will perfectly adhere to the floor and thereby protect it from water and other negative influences.

Roof

To build a roof, galvanized sheet is also very suitable . It reliably riveted to the walls of the body, so that there is not a single hole.

Doorway

In order to maximize seize this part of the van, use a special sealant made of rubber, manufactured by a special formula. This rubber is a polyurethane rubber. The material perfectly retains its flexibility characteristics and is not afraid of sudden temperature changes.

To finally isolate the van, use a special tape sealant and silicone. So isothermal booth is sealed, on the "Gazelle" delivered.

Van with our own hands

Not owning European technologies and materials, you can also make something like that. Let's try to insulate the body of the car.

Today, there are many companies that offer insulation services. As materials, extruded polystyrene is offered in slabs. It is perfect for interior trim.

Since this material has a straight edge, this makes it possible to ensure that the sheets adhere as closely as possible to each other during the stacking process. Plates measuring 2500 mm in length and 600 mm in width. The process of warming will allow to reduce the temperature leaks to a minimum, and in the future such an isothermal booth, assembled by its own hands, can work as a refrigerator.

Selection of insulation materials

In order for the work to be done with the maximum efficiency, it is worth to carefully choose the suitable insulation. You can try the product from the company "Styrofoom".

For industrial products that have average temperatures, IBF 250A can be used internally. The average thickness should be no more than 4 cm. If the van is made of solid metal, then the requirements are more serious. It needs thicker material. The thickness should be at least 50 mm.

Box made with own hands

Our country is a country of unique opportunities. Our people do not use European practices and do not ask for help and advice from specialists. It is worth considering such developments to understand whether it is possible to manufacture this product with your own hands or not.

Often, to make an isothermal booth, polystyrene was used. It was fixed completely manually, and then it was cut off with a galvanized sheet. The design also provides special pipes. With the help of these pipes, the cold quickly leaves the body of the van.

Owners are very unhappy with this fact, since even with a constantly working refrigerator in the van there is no stable cold air.

Disadvantages of such a system

It is difficult to keep the temperature below -10 degrees. In the body is constantly formed condensate, which leads to the destruction of metal surfaces. It is necessary to constantly repair the insulated booths and paint them from the inside. The door opening, made of black metal alloys, will not last long. It would be more appropriate to use stainless steel.

Such a booth can only lead to spoiled nerves, cargo, wasted money.

How to

It should be done as they do in Europe or in our country, but by their technologies. You can look at the isothermal booths (the photo can be seen below) to see the difference.

For greater efficiency, plastic is used in sheets, and the space between the sheets is filled with liquid polyurethane foam. In our country it is much cheaper and easier to buy a ready van, which is already insulated with sandwich panels.

However, everything here is not easy either. If you order the insulation directly from the car dealer - this is one thing. If the thermal insulation process is taken up by a private manufacturer, which has nothing to do with cars, it's quite another. Here it can be rather difficult to determine whether everything is done right.

Two options

As already mentioned, the wagon can be insulated with a special plate. Since the carcass is quite dense, and the body dimensions of the same "Gazelle" are standard, it is not necessary to cut the heater. To prevent the so-called bridges of cold, the seams between the slabs should be filled with sealant. As a material for the inner skin, laminated plywood, various types of plastic or stainless steel can be used. The selection and use of them for the most part depend on what is to be carried in this self-made isothermal van.

The work on the second option is much easier. But the prices for materials are slightly higher. So, as a heat insulation element, polyurethane foam will be used. It can be bought in any stores. Inside, the van should be evenly covered with this material. That's all. From above, anything can be suitable for plating.

That's all it takes to make an isothermal van (or thermo-bumper).
