History of the Aviation Plant

In 1932, on the orders of the People's Commissar of Heavy Industry, the construction of a plant for the production of aircraft No. 125 near Irkutsk was started. And only after 3 years the first-born of the enterprise-the I-14 fighter-was launched into the sky, which was developed by P. Sukhoi 's department from the Tupolev Design Bureau. In the fall of 1941, the Moscow Aviation Enterprise No. 39 named after Vyacheslav Menzhinsky was evacuated to the territory. There was a merger of two plants, and from 19.12.1941 the enterprise was named "Plant No. 39 named after Joseph Stalin". In May 1975, the company received its current name - the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. In 1976, the enterprise was awarded the Order of the October Revolution.

Products of the enterprise in the Soviet era

Irkutsk specialists cooperated with all the design bureaus of the USSR. High-speed bombers of the Tupolev SB satellites, Pe-2 and Pe-3 planes of Petlyakovsky KB, ER-2 of Yermolovo, TU-2 and TU-16, IL, YAKi, several models of ANOV, MIG-23UB and MIG27, SU-27UB and SU30. All the products of the Irkutsk aviation plant are 20 types of aircraft and their modifications. In total, until 1992, 6,500 units were produced. Deliveries were made to 37 countries.

Contracts for deliveries abroad before 2015 of military equipment, amphibious aircraft and gyroplanes A-002 have been concluded. To date, the company's products are supplied to Russia, India, France, Germany, Algeria and Malaysia.

Accidents of modern times

For the period since 1992, the aircraft produced from the stalks of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant suffered two catastrophes. The first occurred in December 1997. Transport aircraft TU-124-100, belonging to the Air Force of the Russian Federation, rose from the runway of the enterprise. 3 of the 4 engines failed. The plane fell to the area where the employees of the enterprise lived. As a result of the accident, 72 people were killed. On the site of one of the houses a church was built.

Another disaster occurred in December 2007. The cargo plane AN-12 followed the route Novosibirsk-Irkutsk. On board were 6 crew members and 3 passengers. The plane fell on the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense. All the people on board were killed.

The future of the Irkutsk aircraft plant

The company is gradually diversifying its products, focusing on civil aircraft construction. To date, the project is developing the production of the main aircraft MS-21. It is destined to replace the TU-154. The project is working 2 KB - Yakovlev and Ilyushin.
