Internet Explorer - what is it? Development and functions

It's hard to believe that someone else does not know anything about browsers. These programs have long become our helpers, allow you to plunge into the world of the Internet and learn everything we want. Web browsers help not only to browse web pages, but also to open special documents, files, directories, manage applications and solve various kinds of software tasks.

Browsers

We all heard about Internet Explorer. This is a browser that has become "iconic" (with a negative coloring). Now it is used by a small number of people. This is due to the fact that the company has practically ceased to support its child programmatically, and users are tired of braking and lagging.

Someone may think that Internet Explorer was the first browser. But this is not so. In fact, he is only 22 years old. The first Internet browser was WorldWideWeb. He became known back in 1990. It was developed by Tim Berners-Lee. Over time, the browser was renamed to Nexus. But this option is difficult to consider complete, because it was used for special tasks.

But the widespread observer was NCSA Mosaic. He started working with Windows, and it was on his base with the source code that Internet Explorer became known. This happened in 1995. Since that moment, IE has become part of the Windows operating system. And only in the 10th version of the OS, this browser replaced the novelty from the company Microsoft Edge.

First steps

The browser project was laid in 1994. Thomas Reardon worked on it. The first version appeared the next year and looks like Spyglass Mosaic, because it is based on this browser. Microsoft legally, buying a license, creates its first browser. The version became known to the owners of Windows 95. Later appeared an intermediate, for which the support for displaying the HTML tables was improved.

The subsequent versions began to appear one after another. In them, users could learn new features. Then the programmers began to use the iframe, an element of the HTML language, which made it possible to create documents in the document.

The fifth version, at last, has ceased to be reloaded at HTTP-inquiries to the server. Became a known way to capture and drag parts. Now it is included in the fifth version of the markup language and is accepted by all applications by default. Added attributes for direct editing of items from the browser and opened access to the clipboard.

The sixth version of the Internet Explorer browser for XP was marked by the fact that it began using the P3P protocol to notify the visitor about the privacy of the data. In the seventh version, this function was modified, the information was now protected from viruses and network attacks.

Eighth

IE8 became known to the world in 2009. Previously, there was a beta version, which allowed to identify all the shortcomings. After the second beta version was released with the finalization, and already on March 19, the main one came to wide use. This browser worked with Windows XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003 and 2008. The architecture of the system could be 32 or 64-bit. The manufacturer claimed that this version of the browser was supposed to provide security, simplicity and lightweight operation with PSS, CSS, etc.

The developers have tried to implement strict compliance with standards and the correct display of cascading style sheets. Working with JavaScript has also been improved, and performance is enhanced. You could use anonymous mode. But, despite all the declared advantages and innovations, some countries recommended their citizens to refuse to use this web browser, because in the course of work security problems were discovered. This version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP was the last version for users of this operating system.

The ninth

Over this update began to work immediately after the release of the previous one. Developers wanted to improve the performance of web applications by improving the performance of DirectX. In 2011, it was possible to check when working with IE9. This version was supported by operating systems, starting with Vista. It became possible to use CSS 3, but in part. We also decided to support the ICC 2 or 4 color profiles.

It was the first web browser to work with hardware acceleration. It was necessary to quickly display graphic elements. The text and video were loaded at the expense of special technologies. It became available fixing pages on the taskbar, and testing showed excellent results.

Tenth

The tenth version of Internet Explorer for Windows 7 was not released immediately. Initially, the company introduced this browser for two systems: Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. At the G8, this version of the web browser was divided into two parts: the classic for the desktop, and the first for sensory devices. The update allowed to manage all novelties JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3. Again tried to refine the technology for the security of user data and different tools.

The last

The eleventh version of Internet Explorer is the last update. It was released in 2013 on Windows 8.1. First worked with this version of the operating system for PCs and smartphones, later with the "seven". With the release of Windows 10 went into the complex together with a novelty from Microsoft.

The updated version began to support the synchronization of all personal data and tools through a Microsoft account. The developer tested and said that this version is uniquely considered the fastest at the time of its release. Many innovations are connected with the version for the smartphone.

From the beginning of 2016 the manufacturer announced that this version of Internet Explorer is the only one that will be supported by the company for some time. All the rest, obsolete, will be deprived of technical support and security updates.

Criticism

It's no secret that this browser is very few people like. He once received a ton of criticism. At first, this was due to the fact that the Microsoft web browser was the only one in the system. The developer wanted to monopolize the desktop operating systems market. But soon it became possible to choose the default browser.

Later, many countries began to claim that Internet Explorer is not a flexible page browser. He does not have enough support for web standards, which, naturally, did not like programmers. And only in the ninth version all the necessary technologies and functions were added, while the webmasters switched to other platforms.

There were questions to safety and operational work. Especially there were doubts about the evaluation of testing. Some experts believed that Microsoft deliberately spins the results to somehow stay afloat.

Continuation

Microsoft Edge is the continuation of the Internet Explorer browser. A new application appeared along with the tenth version of the operating system. The novelty is presented to the public as the default browser. The system also has Internet Explorer 11 to keep backward compatibility. Microsoft Edge runs on a new JavaScript engine and interpreter. Allows you to use the stylus. Implemented assistant Cortana. You can log in through a biometric authentication system and much more.

Replacing the old Internet Explorer was a success. Of course, it is too early to talk about this because the audience is not large. But those who have already tried this web browser, were satisfied with both speed and security. The only thing missing is some extra tools and extensions.
