Infertility in men

Unfortunately, infertility in men can hardly be considered a rarity: the statistics confirm that about 40% of the male population of the planet is facing this problem. About the inability to produce offspring it is worth considering if the partner's pregnancy does not occur within a year of active sexual activity without the use of contraceptives.

Infertility in men: causes

The causes of infertility in the strong half of mankind are many. Therefore, they should be considered in more detail:

  1. Inflammatory processes can affect primarily the quality of sperm. For example, urethritis and prostatitis can lead to decreased motility of spermatozoa. First, low activity of germ cells reduces the probability of fertilization, and as the disease becomes more complicated, it leads to infertility.
  2. Another common cause is infectious diseases, especially venereal diseases. After all, infections most often cause inflammation of one or another organ of the male sexual system. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are considered especially dangerous. It is worth remembering that any sexually transmitted diseases require immediate treatment.
  3. Infertility in men can occur against a background of hormonal imbalance. The cause of the violation of the level of hormones can be either endocrine system disease or age. In any case, the result is a deficiency of testosterone and, as a consequence, problems with erection and impaired production of germ cells.
  4. Sometimes the ability to fertilize can partially or completely disappear due to genital injuries or the presence of a tumor.
  5. Some diseases can cause infertility in men. For example, it is not a secret for anyone that the severe form of mumps or mumps, especially in adulthood, can deprive a man of childbearing function.
  6. Anomalies or some inborn abnormalities of the anatomical structure can also lead to the inability to have children. As an example, one can call phimosis or irregular structure of the urethra.
  7. You can not discount the mental state. Constant stress and nervous tension negatively affect the work of the whole organism, including the reproductive system.
  8. Harmful habits can also lead to infertility. It is proved that drugs, alcohol and nicotine negatively affect the condition of the testicles, reduce the quality of sperm and the amount of sperm produced.
  9. Occasionally, the cause of the disease can be a constant exposure to high temperatures, wearing tight, tight clothes.
  10. Constant exposure to the body of chemicals (for example, when working in hazardous production, etc.) can adversely affect the ability to procreate.

Infertility in men: treatment and prevention

To begin with, it is worth remembering that if you are suspected of infertility, you should immediately consult a doctor, and both partners should do it. Only after careful testing and analysis, a specialist will be able to find out the cause of the inability to have children. And the treatment depends directly on the cause.

Medical treatment of infertility is advisable in the event that the disease is caused by some concomitant diseases. For example, in the presence of venereal infections, a course of taking antibiotics is necessary. If the reason is a decrease in the level of hormones, the doctor will prescribe treatment with the help of appropriate hormonal drugs. In some cases, it is necessary to take immunomodulators and some homeopathic remedies. And, of course, an integral part of the treatment is the right diet, appropriate rest and work regime, physical activity and the rejection of bad habits.

In some cases, surgical intervention is necessary. This method is used if there is some obstacle in the genitals that interferes with the normal exit of the sperm. Surgery will help in cases where the cause of infertility is the cyst, benign tumor, inguinal hernia. Sometimes surgeons can even eliminate some anatomical abnormalities.

Unfortunately, modern medicine can not always restore a man's ability to fertilize. But this does not mean that spouses can not have children. Do not forget about artificial insemination or the search for a donor of sperm.
