Homogeneous in its composition, the ointment has a dark brown color and characteristic odor, contains an active ingredient ihtamol and has antiseptic and disinfectant properties. This drug is obtained from resins, which are formed during gasification and semi-coking of oil shales, it is called ichthyol ointment. The instruction contains information on the content of the active substance: the ointment can be released at a concentration of 10%, 20% or 30% of ichthyol (an auxiliary substance of the drug is Vaseline). Has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, keratolytic, analgesic (local) effect. Antimicrobial properties of the drug are predetermined by the presence of sulfur. When applied to the wound, there is a narrowing of the vessels, a decrease in fluid secretion and an acceleration in the regeneration of damaged tissues.

It is applied externally for the treatment of skin (burns, wounds, eczema, dermatitis, furunculosis, pyoderma), arthritis, neuralgia, tendovaginitis, bursitis, mastitis. The duration of treatment depends on the nature of the disease and the symptoms. Sometimes, up to 14 days, ichthyol ointment should be used regularly.
