Hyacinth in a pot - decoration of an apartment

Hyacinth is a bulbous perennial plant with leaves that look like a belt, and strongly smelling flowers - bells, collected in inflorescences like brushes. Coloring is extremely diverse: from snow-white to inky-violet. Hyacinths are double and non-double. And the latter are much larger.

Hyacinth in Greek means "rain flower". There is a legend that tells about the hero of the myths of Greece, Hyacinth. He was a favorite of Apollo, and in his honor this flower is named. One of the most common species is the eastern hyacinth. It grows in Greece, Lebanon, southern Turkey, Syria, where it blooms in early spring. In the south of Russia quite often and in large quantities there is hyacinth blue, with white and blue flowers. There is also another not so famous kind of hyacinth - Belvalia Roman. In the wild, it is found in northern Italy, southern France, Algeria.

Hyacinths in the flowering period are divided into early, middle and late. The gap in time is very small, about 10 days. Begin the flowering usually blue and white hyacinths, and complete the dark red and yellow. During flowering they are fed with full fertilizers, and after - phosphoric-potash with the addition of trace elements.

In the open ground hyacinth in the garden blooms in early spring - in April, May. After the plant blossoms, and the leaves turn yellow by one third, you can proceed to dig out the bulbs. Then they are cleaned, dried and sorted. Before planting, the bulbs are treated with a fungicide. To grow hyacinth in a pot, take the largest bulbs. They produce powerful flowers. Although you can take and smaller bulbs, but they will bloom later. If you decorate a large pot, which will accommodate a few bulbs, they are better to take a different color. Then the composition will look more interesting. It can also be supplemented with various small-mouthed plants. These are muscari, quinodox, snowdrops, iris reticulata, sparse. Hyacinth in a pot surrounded by these plants will look like a king surrounded by retinue.

The plant requires a large amount of light. During flowering, hyacinth requires a temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. The lower the temperature, the longer the plant blooms. It is advisable to keep hyacinth in an apartment away from batteries and drafts. Watering the plant during distillation should be very moderate, so that the roots do not rot. When planting bulbs in pots, you can use any floral weakly acidic soil.

The bulbs are planted so that 10% of its value is above the ground. Landing starts from the end of August, depending on when you want to get flowering plants. If you plant one bulb in a pot, then it can be very small, since distillation occurs at the expense of bulb stocks. To the plant bloomed by a certain date, it must undergo treatment with cold. During this treatment, the plant is completely rooted, and the central growth point is strengthened. Cold processing takes place at a temperature of 7 -10 degrees Celsius, in the dark. Rooting time lasts 11 weeks, after which you can proceed to forcing.

If the cold treatment regime was not sustained, then the plant will bloom, but much later. After forcing, the bulb should be planted on the garden, and then it will blossom next year. For forcing, this bulb can be used only after 3 years, when it will be fully restored.

We must not forget that when flowering, hyacinth in a pot emits a very strong aroma, which may not appeal to allergic people and children. Therefore, it is desirable to take out the plant on the balcony or kitchen for the night.

Hyacinth in a pot will be a wonderful gift and decoration for your apartment.
