How to properly care for a carpet

Carpets are designed to create a feeling of warmth and comfort in the house, covering the cold floor, as well as simply pleasing the eye with its beauty. However, such an innocuous interior object sometimes causes allergic reactions. This is due to the fact that dust and dirt accumulate in carpets with improper care.

Carpets are made from both natural and artificial materials. In this case, carpets with artificial pile are more durable and cheaper, however, dust attracts more. We'll figure out how to properly care for the carpet.

Carpets of natural materials

Before cleaning carpets from materials of natural origin (wool or silk), you need to check the pile for color fastness, otherwise you risk getting a carpet with a blurry pattern. To check, you need a piece of white cotton cloth. It must be moistened with saliva or a very mild soap solution and rub the area with one color on the carpet. This procedure must be repeated with each color. If the fabric is painted, cleaning such a carpet at home is not possible, and it can be taken only to dry cleaners specializing in carpets.

Woolen carpets on both sides are vacuumed in the direction of the nap with a nozzle with a long bristle. You can also knock out a carpet, and then sweep it with a broom. When you knock out a carpet, do not hang it on the rope, as this can lead to pulling the warp threads. The best way to clean the carpet is in the snow.

It should be noted that cleaning with a vacuum cleaner can only remove dirt from the surface, for a deeper cleaning will need professional apparatus (for example, a washing disk machine).

For wet cleaning, you can use both special household chemicals, and children's shampoo or laundry soap. When choosing a detergent, pay attention to the composition: it should not have whitening components, since they have a detrimental effect on the coat.

With a washed carpet, first remove moisture with towels and then dry it in a straightened state, avoiding exposure to heat and sunlight.

Silk carpets can not be vacuumed and exposed to household chemicals. They can be shaken out, and if necessary, remove stains with a weak solution of baking soda. Also in the fight against contamination helps a solution of vinegar in water (1: 3), applied to a suede rag. In this case, it is highly desirable to handle fresh stains, since the old dirt, most likely, will not be possible to remove. Dry the silk carpet must be straightened, avoiding direct sunlight and not affecting it with heat.

Carpets with artificial pile

Carpets of artificial materials due to the accumulation of static electricity charges attract dust, so it is advisable to vacuum them at least once every two to three days.

Such carpets do not need as careful care as carpets made of materials of natural origin, but there are also several rules for them. First, when cleaning synthetic carpets, no solvents should be used. Secondly, they can not be strongly rubbed with a damp cleaning, otherwise the pile falls and becomes unusable. Thirdly, it will be optimal to process synthetic carpets with a special antistatic: this will not only reduce the amount of dust attracted, but will also ensure that you do not get struck by static electricity.

A carpet of artificial materials can be vacuumed, knocked out, treated with a steam cleaner, sweeping, washed with detergents and soap.

Caring for a carpet with a long pile is more difficult: it needs to be combed with a brush. And if you have long-haired pets in the house, even a daily cleaning will not help keep the carpet clean, since all the wool will be attracted to it.
