How to propagate a rose with cuttings: preparation, rooting, planting

No matter how beautiful other flowers are, the queen remains a rose. A variety of shapes and colors combined with a wonderful aroma can not remain indifferent to this exquisite beauty.

The genus Rosa includes a number of groups: stumpy, park, tea-hybrid, ground cover, miniature, floribunda. Experienced gardeners know how to propagate a rose with cuttings, and during the season can significantly increase the number of pets in their rosary. Cuttings can be cauline, lignified and semi-mature.

There are many interesting ways of how to propagate roses by cuttings. The photo, where the cuttings are stuck in potatoes, is proof of that. It is believed that this way they fall into a pure nutrient medium, do not rot and develop rapidly. Let's consider more traditional methods.

Stem dripping

Root stem cuttings are well suited to most polyanthus roses, miniature and floribunda. Obtained roots, not giving wild growth.

How to propagate roses properly with cuttings? In the first half of summer, the upper part of the shoot in the flowering stage is taken, until the axillary buds have gone into growth. Cuttings are cut with 3-4 kidneys up to 15 cm long. The upper cut passes above the kidney, the lower cut below it. The top leaves need to be cut in half, the lower - to remove.

Cuttings must be kept for 10-15 hours in the root stimulator. Then they are planted in a box or open ground. Well dug up soil on top is poured a layer of 5 cm, consisting of a mixture (1: 1) of sand and peat or sand and coniferous sawdust. Soil is leveled, it is good to water and plant cuttings, having choked for 2-3 cm.

Cuttings are placed tightly, 3 by 6 cm. For high humidity, it is necessary to install a hotbed, and also good lighting is needed. The optimum temperature is + 20-25 degrees.

Cuttings take root for 2 months, but the young root system can not survive the cold. If you leave them in the open ground and cover well for the winter, some of the cuttings will die. Better to dig them in the sand in the cellar or cellar until spring. In the spring, the seedlings grow in a place protected from wind and moisture and reach maturity. Now they can take a permanent place in the garden.

Propagation by lignified cuttings

If there is a climbing beauty in the garden, it is better to take lignified cuttings. When and how to propagate a rose? Cuttings should be stocked in the fall. Take annual ripening shoots half a centimeter thick. The leaves are removed, the shoots are tied in a bundle and buried in a dry place, covered with a film.

In spring they are cut so that on the cuttings there are 4-6 kidneys, and immersed in water. After taking out of the water, immediately put and watered. Cuttings should be closed, leaving 1-2 kidneys above the ground, pressing the earth. First, a film shelter is required, by the middle of summer it is removed. In August, the plants blossom.

Semi-lignified cuttings

How to propagate a rose with cuttings during the summer with good survival? In the flowering period cuttings with two leaves are cut from the middle of semi-mature shoots. The bottom sheet is removed, the top is shortened.

Planted in boxes with good drainage scheme 3x6, deepening minimally. Put in the shade, cover with a film. Cuttings need scattered sunlight, temperature + 20-22 degrees, high humidity. Rooting will go better if you further warm the bottom of the box. With increasing soil temperature relative to air by 1-2 degrees, roots grow faster. A month later the root system appears in the cuttings, but it is better to spend the first winter in the basement.

Disappearing beauty. Rooting a rose from a bouquet

Many women, who were presented with a chic bouquet of Dutch roses with long thick trunks, are thinking about how to propagate a rose with cuttings. It is certainly possible to do this. But we must bear in mind that these roses were created for a different climate, their own internal system will not survive the winter cold, and growth will be slowed.

If the bouquet consists of regionalized local roses, then we can hope for success. The technique of growing is similar to the rooting of stem cuttings, and the greenhouse can be installed on the windowsill.
