How to knit elongated crochet hooks: photos, examples, description

Among the many opportunities that the existing techniques of knitting open to the skilled workers, not the last place is occupied by elongated loops (crochet). A diagram, a detailed description of the implementation and the main areas of application of such a technique will be set forth in this article.

What are elongated loops?

Formation of loops of elongated shape serves, mainly, for decorating knitted products. Based on the differences in the technique of execution, we can distinguish three main types of elongated loops:

  1. Free loops forming a fringe.
  2. Picked up loops, forming openwork patterns.
  3. V-shaped loops running along the surface of a continuous web.

Before knitting the elongated hooks, one should think about yarn. To make products with loops in the form of fringe, do not use multi-layer yarns. When fluffy, they may become confused and lose their neat appearance. However, the use of too fine yarn will not give fringe effect, the loops will be rare. The output is the use of yarn with tight torsion in several additions.

To knit loops of the second kind, often choose a melange or bright yarn, since such patterns look elegant.

Stitches formed by elongated loops of the last kind, it will be better to see on the background linen if you use a yarn of different colors.

Most often knitters choose contrasting yarns for such work. Here there are no special wisdoms, just to form some columns without a crochet, the hook is inserted into the previous rows of the canvas.

How to knit elongated hook loops: the basic principles of making fringe

This technique can be used to decorate the edge of the product or as a basic pattern for the fabric. The second option is used if it is necessary to obtain imitation of fur. With the right choice of color and texture of the thread, the elongated loops help to recreate the appearance of the sheepskin, which is useful for knitting collars, cuffs, jackets and coats, and also when working on knitted boots.

The diagram of crocheting elongated hooks visually looks like the one on the next photo.

The first row should always be continuous (best of all, columns without a crochet). Next, make a lifting loop, the working thread is wound around the finger of the left hand. Depending on the length of the loops, one or more turns are performed. The next step is knitting an ordinary column without a crochet. It is advisable to tighten the knitting more tightly so that all the loops are of equal length. When the column is ready, the thread from the finger is lowered and proceed to similar execution of the following bars. The inside row is knitted with columns without crochets or connecting posts. The latter have a lower height, which means that the fringe will be more dense.

Before knitting the elongated hooks, it is necessary to practice on the control sample. This is not a recommendation, but a rule. So you can significantly optimize the process of knitting the product, avoiding unnecessary rework and blooming.

Hooked loops in a circle

This method is used when the hinges should be very dense. With this knitting, elongated loops will be located in each row, since there are no return (purl) loops.

Specificity of the circular cloth is that sometimes knitting occurs in a spiral, without lifting loops for each new row. In other cases, traditional rows are formed, with lifting loops and connecting posts at the end.

The latter method is justified if in the process of knitting they plan to change the color of the rows. Extension loops, crocheted in a circle, are best suited for making the top of knitted boots and cuffs of jackets.

Picked up extended hinges

The order of this reception is shown in the photos below.

To form long loops a template is needed. This can be a ruler, cardboard strip, thick knitting needle or any other long object of the appropriate size.

When knitting each row, the template should be applied to the canvas and wind the thread at first on it, and then pull out the loop for the column without the crochet. By the way, this method can be used instead of winding the thread on the finger, described in the previous paragraph. How to knit elongated hook loops and the sequence of further actions is very clearly visible in the photo.

When a series with long loops is completed, it is necessary to make as many lifting loops as necessary to go to the level of a new row. A pattern with elongated loops is formed when the long loops of the first row are caught in the execution of columns without the second row. They can be removed immediately from the template or done gradually, so as not to confuse.

The third and subsequent series can repeat the first and second or form a completely different pattern. In any case, such a canvas looks very expressive and attractive.

Feature of patterns with picked up loops

In the photo below, an example of what happens if you consistently tie each elongated loop with a bar without a crochet.

If you want to get a more complex pattern, the columns of the second row are knitted after laying out long loops in a special way. They can be crossed among themselves, gathered into a bundle and overwritten or otherwise performed.
