How to connect a laptop to the Internet

The laptop has long ceased to be a luxury - it's a tool for work, recreation and entertainment. Many have already appreciated and fall in love with this wonderful device, for some it has become a full-fledged replacement for the desktop PC.

If you connect the laptop to the Internet - it will be able to open its potential even more. And it pleases. Today we will consider several options "how to connect a laptop to the Internet." Ready? Let's start.

Option 1. How to connect a laptop to the Internet using Wi-Fi.
This is one of the easiest ways to connect. Most modern laptops are equipped with a Wi-Fi module. If you are in the coverage area of a Wi-Fi network, you can connect using the following method:

  • We turn on the laptop module Wi-Fi;
  • Go to Start / Connect, find and click Wireless network connection;
  • Choose the network you want to connect to;
  • Double click on the selected network - and we are connected. If the network is protected - you will need to enter a password (check with the administrator / network owner);
  • When you establish a connection, you get full access to the Internet.

If there is no Wi-Fi module, you can purchase and install a USB Wi-Fi adapter. This miniature module can become a full-fledged replacement for the missing / disabled equipment on the laptop.

Option 2. How to connect the laptop to the Internet using a USB modem *.
Now use the "all-people love" USB modems, through which you can go online. This access option is interesting in the presence of good coverage and adequate rates in the tariff plan. If desired, you can find providers that provide mobile Internet bundled with a 3G modem. Depending on the equipment and the service provider, the connection procedure may be different.

In some cases, providers are free to configure the connection at their service center, sometimes you can find special programs that automatically install hardware drivers, create a connection and configure Internet access settings. It is possible that you will have to connect and configure the USB modem yourself. As it usually happens:

  • Insert the SIM card into the USB modem;
  • Insert the USB modem into the USB port on the laptop;
  • The system detects a new device (during the installation you need to select a language);
  • We agree with the License Agreement and the place of installation of the program;
  • After the installation is completed, click "Finish";
  • The program will start automatically. If not - run in manual mode and enter pin-code (written on the card for the sim card);
  • The program is ready to work. Click "Connect with ...". After creating a connection, we can use the Internet.

* The connection scheme may vary depending on the equipment used and the provider (service provider).

Option 3. How to connect a laptop to the Internet via a cable, using a network card *.
Imagine that you have already come to the master, engaged in connecting subscribers. They conducted the cable, checked the connection and plugged the cable into the network card slot. It remains only to configure the network card :

  1. Go to the Start menu, then select the Control Panel;
  2. We find and click Network connections, there you need to select Local Area Connection and double click on it with the left mouse button;
  3. Then select and click Properties, in the list we need the TCP / IP protocol, then click Properties again;
  4. Finally we reached our destination. If the provider provides automatic settings - choose "Obtain automatically" for IP and for the DNS server. Clicking OK will complete the network card settings. All settings are completed. Welcome to the world of the Internet.
  5. ** If the provider does NOT provide automatic settings - choose "Use the following IP" and manually "drive" IP, Mask and Default gateway.
  6. The next step is to set the primary and alternate address for the DNS server;
  7. After you click OK, the settings you made are fixed. The connection to the Internet will be made automatically when the notebook is turned on.

* Depending on the service provider, the description of the settings may vary.
** The data that is required for the network card settings, please check with the provider (service provider).

Do not pay attention to the apparent complexity of the connection settings. After you make the settings at least once - everything will fall into place. After several trial connections, you can easily set up an Internet connection not only to yourself, but to all "technically hopeless" acquaintances. Congratulations: now you know the whole three answers to the tricky question of "how to connect a laptop to the Internet".
