How to choose the right glues for porcelain stoneware?

When laying tiles on a wall or floor it is of great importance what glues are used. For porcelain stoneware - this is one type, for wall tiles of white or red clay - another. The difference is in the components. In dry condition glues for ceramic granite are a sand-cement mixture with water-soluble polymers in certain proportions. Due to these components, the ductility and viscosity of the mass are ensured, as well as the adhesion of the material. Modern high-quality adhesives for porcelain tiles are characterized by high technical and operational characteristics, such as resistance to temperature changes, moisture resistance, frost resistance, plasticity, adhesion strength and high adhesion. The difference between the choice of glue mass for floor tiles from the wall is that ceramic granite has a low water absorption threshold, hence so-called cement milk does not absorb into the pores of the tile, and with time, voids will form between the surfaces. And this, in turn, will lead to cracking and lagging of the tiles from the floor surface. Therefore, this issue should be approached seriously.

The successful laying of tiles for the floor and a long service life are largely dependent on the preparation of the substrate, as well as on what kind of adhesives for porcelain stoneware you use. Even on the package with the mixture is always prescribed that it is correct to work only with an even, pre-primed surface. Important advice: Before buying, consult with the seller of the tile, specify the technical characteristics of the selected material, and also take into account the peculiarities of the zone in which you will make the laying (indoors or outdoors). Glue for ceramic granite, the price of which varies depending on the constituent components, plays a big role in how long the selected floor covering can last. Therefore, when buying expensive tiles with high technical parameters, do not skimp on the appropriate adhesive material.

The expense of glue for porcelain stoneware is easy to calculate. Since the floor tiles are subject to constant loads, there is an unspoken rule: the thickness of the adhesive layer is equal to the thickness of the tile to be laid. Also, the expense is written on the package with the mixture.

Adhesives for porcelain stoneware, which will be laid on the warm floor, should have the following properties:

  1. Elasticity.
  2. Increased adhesion to the substrate.
  3. The ability to equalize the voltage that arises from the difference in temperature.

Tip: Wait until the adhesive is completely dry before turning on the floor heating.

In the case when laying is carried out under complicated operating conditions (outdoors, in a technical room, etc.), it is better to use two-component glues for porcelain stoneware. They are more resistant to changes in temperature and humidity. And this contributes to the durability and longer life of the selected coating.

For laying tiles on wood, metal, plastic and the like surfaces, use glues for porcelain tiles on a polyurethane or epoxy basis.
