How is demodex eye treatment performed?

Demodecosis is a fairly common disease. And although ticks most often affect the skin of the face, sometimes the disease also extends to the lining of the eyelids, which leads to irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye. So what does the treatment for demodex eyes look like?

What is demodicosis and what are its causes?

As is known, the cause of the development of such a disease are microscopic mites of the genus Demodex. Such microorganisms are part of the natural microflora of the human body, they feed on dead cells.

Nevertheless, in some cases, the life of mites leads to the development of an allergic reaction and inflammation of the tissues. The risk factors are, first of all, violations in the immune system. In addition, demodicosis can occur as a result of uncontrolled use of certain hormonal ointments.

Demodex eyes: photo and symptoms

Quite often, mites spread to the skin of the eyelids and follicles of the eyelashes. Such a lesion affects the condition of the mucous membrane of the eyes. For a start, there is redness and a slight swelling in the affected eyelid. As the pathogenic organisms multiply, there is a noticeable itch - a person constantly wants to rub his eyes, and scratching and micro-traumas of the skin do not contribute to the process of recovery.

Often, inflammation is accompanied by suppuration and the formation of crusts on the surface of the skin. Since morning the patient, as a rule, is difficult to open eyes because of glued eyelashes. In addition, pathogenic microorganisms release into the tissues toxins (products of their own vital activity), which provoke various forms of allergic reaction.

For example, demodicosis can be accompanied by reddening of the mucous membrane, severe burning, itching and even pain in the eyes, allergic conjunctivitis, decreased vision, etc.

Demodex eyes: treatment

If you have the above symptoms, you should immediately consult an ophthalmologist. Only an expert can choose an effective treatment for eye demodex. Of course, for the beginning it is necessary to conduct additional tests and tests that will help confirm the diagnosis and determine the severity of the disease.

Immediately it is worth noting that the treatment of eye demodex is a long process. In some cases, therapy can last for years. To begin with, doctors prescribe special eye drops that help get rid of redness and itching. Important is the use of antihistamines, which stop the development of an allergic reaction - very effective are medicines "Tavegil", "Claritin", "Suprastin" and some others. This therapy helps to remove puffiness and eliminate discomfort.

Nevertheless, the treatment of eye demodex should include procedures that slow the reproduction and development of ticks. To this end, the "Demalon" ointment is used, which after application creates an airtight film on the skin, which negatively affects the causative agent of the disease.

Of course, it is important to follow the rules of personal hygiene - regularly cleanse the skin of dust, dirt and sebum. Eyelids and eyes are useful to wipe fresh decoction of calendula or chamomile - these herbs act as antiseptics, while removing inflammation.

Since demodecosis is most often the result of a decrease in immunity, the patient needs the intake of vitamins, immunomodulators, and the right diet that saturates the body with all the necessary substances.
