Homemade pistol as the last but unconvincing argument

"Ultima ratio regum" in Russian translation is "the last argument of kings". These Latin words began to be minted on cannon still in the time of Cardinal Richelieu, but even today they can be seen on the trunks of quite modern guns. The past centuries have not changed the meaning of this winged expression: when all arguments in the dispute between the two states have been exhausted, the last method of persuasion is the armed force. Conflicted not only kings and presidents, but also ordinary people who can not roll out formidable cannons as evidence of their superiority over the opponent. They have to look for other ways to take revenge, and much depends on the current legislation of a particular state. In most countries, the free sale of firearms is prohibited, but wishing to shoot it does not always stop - by all truths and crooks they are trying to acquire "pocket artillery", one of the samples of which is a homemade gun. The creators of such weapons are mostly motivated by purely criminal interest, but it also happens that honest, but overly naive people use their inventive talents clearly not for their intended purpose, but in the end they are behind bars.

The technical characteristics of such handicraft weapons depend on the design talents and the degree of "bloodthirstiness" of its creator (or customer). It's enough for someone to have a homemade pneumatic gun that shoots plastic bullets (balls) and has more psychological than a killer effect. Such weapons are based on the principle of pneumatics, that is, there is no combustion reaction of a certain amount of gunpowder - the charge is pushed outward by the force of compressed air. But the homemade pistol "Melkashka", intended, as the name suggests, for shooting small-caliber ammunition, it is quite possible to equate to a weapon of dangerous lethal effects. There are also "craftsmen" who create designs of monstrous caliber, size and appearance, like those that can be seen in fantastic action films. But on closer inspection this iron monster is nothing more than a homemade gun. Such mechanisms pose a threat primarily to their owner, and that's why. First, the illegal manufacture of firearms (as well as storage, sale and the like) is a serious offense. Secondly, even the most ingenious gunsmith will not be able to assemble a reliable design in the handicraft conditions, the "homemade" making of ammunition is a special danger. There is no guarantee that at the first shot the homemade gun will not break into pieces, causing serious injuries to the shooter, or even depriving him of life.

From all that has been said, it is obvious that possessing such a specific kind of weapon as a homemade pistol is a troublesome business, risky, and simply illegal. Its effectiveness is extremely low, it is not necessary to speak about the moral side. And because the proud royal motto on the "barrel-samopal" would look extremely inappropriate.
