Gloxinia: leaf propagation. Gloxinia: description, reproduction, care, planting
Due to its lush flowering and bright appearance gloxinia is loved and claimed in indoor floriculture. On one small plant, with proper care, about 10-15 colors of goblet shape can dissolve simultaneously. Numerous varieties and hybrids have been discovered, affecting their unusual, amazing coloration. Any grower is trying to get something new, and buying is not always possible, then the question arises as to how to reproduce gloxinia at home. We learn all possible ways and technologies.
Description of the plant
The second name of gloxinia is hybrid syning. A perennial tuber plant was brought to Europe from the tropical forests of South America (from Brazil to Mexico). Its nominal name it received in honor of BP. Gloxin is a botanist and a doctor. In a natural environment, synning prefer to grow on rocky surfaces, near rivers, shady and damp corners of the forest. The plant is sensitive to lighting and has a clearly expressed period of winter dormancy, which, if kept in room conditions, must be observed.
Modern hybrid varieties are conventionally divided into four groups depending on the size of the bush: microminiature (height less than 5 cm) and miniature (5-12 cm), compact (12-25 cm) and standard (more than 25 cm). Characteristic for gloxinia are three ways of reproduction.
Seed sowing
This is a fascinating process, because in your eyes from a tiny seed can grow a beautiful flowering plant in 5-6 months, though, will have to make efforts and spend time. The best time for sowing is February-March, when an extended light day comes. For those who have special lamps, the planting season lasts the whole year. In this way, you can get the most rare varietal gloxinia. Reproduction by the sheet limits this possibility.
Prepare a nourishing light substrate and a small plastic container for gloxinia. Ideally, it should be closed (as, for example, packaging from the cake). In such dishes, greenhouse conditions for seedlings will be created. At the bottom, several drain holes should be made.
Procedure
- With an even layer of 3-4 cm, pour the soil into the container and moisten it with a light solution of potassium permanganate from the spray gun.
- Seeds are evenly spread over the surface with tweezers. Then again lightly spray the surface and close the container with a lid. The temperature should be maintained at 18 ° C. Periodically (every two days) air the seedlings to prevent the appearance of mold on the surface.
- The first sprouts appear, as a rule, in two weeks. From this moment, the aerate should be ventilated daily, removing the condensate.
- As soon as the first pair of real leaves appears, dive gloxinia. Reproduction by a sheet proceeds quickly enough if all the conditions and rules are observed.
Tuber Division
This method is quite troublesome, because in case of failure you can lose the whole plant completely. To start dividing the tuber is only when it has become clearly visible numerous growing sprouts, as a rule, this is observed only in large old specimens. With a clean, sterile knife, the root must be cut into several pieces. Their number corresponds to the number of strong shoots. Cut the slices within a day and sprinkle with carbon powder.
In the prepared soil mixture, the tubers are buried only 2/3 to exclude the decay of the growth point. After the shoots grow, the ground is poured to the required level. The main condition for further development is proper watering (preferably through a pallet or neatly from the top) and place in a house without direct sunlight.
If suddenly you notice that the tuber has started to rot, immediately remove it from the ground, cut off the damaged part and repeat the entire procedure anew.
Gloxinia: reproduction by leaf cuttings
Most of the hybrids are characterized by the presence of impressive juicy leaves, which are just perfect for vegetative reproduction. Especially it suits those who want to have several copies of a certain kind or when there is no opportunity to buy the gloxins they liked. Reproduction by a sheet is carried out in the summer or in the beginning of autumn. Its size does not matter. Large sheets can be divided into several parts, each of which will subsequently give a new plant, and small root whole.
In addition, separate shoots from the awakened tuber are suitable for vegetative propagation. For abundant flowering and good growth, it is recommended to leave only one escape from the mother plant, the rest to be removed and used to obtain a new bug of gloxinia.
How to root?
Specialists do not recommend using the water method, the probability of decay is high. Root the leaves immediately in the substrate. It should be lightweight, well permeable to air and moisture, it is best to buy in the store a special primer for gloxinia. Reproduction by the sheet also requires greenhouse conditions, this ensures the maximum likelihood of the appearance of rootlets. As a rule, this procedure takes about a month. Then the greenhouse should be opened and gradually accustomed young plants to the conditions of the room. In 2-3 months from the root can go to babies, when they give 2-3 leaves, the main stalk can be cut to a height of 1 cm from the ground.
If the young tuber does not go from the tuber, do not get upset, it means the plant is at rest. This happens if the reproduction of gloxinia with a leaf occurs in the fall for the winter. In this case it is worth shortening watering and removing the pot in a cool and dark place.
Rooted leaf decaying
The most common problem in the vegetative reproduction of gloxinia. If it concerns one or two copies, then, perhaps, an accident. But in the case of systematic, it is worth paying attention to the reasons:
- Damage to the base of the petiole, this can happen if you press the leaf too hard;
- Hit the direct rays of the sun, it is best to keep the pots with petioles where there is diffuse light, and the penumbra for them, too, is fatal;
- The proliferation of gloxinia with a leaf suggests sterile instruments for cutting it off and in no case breaking off;
- An unfavorable time for rooting, it is most optimal to do this in spring or early summer;
- Too old sheet, try to take young small plates.
Rooted leaf withers
Another trouble that can happen during reproduction. It is not so terrible, its causes can be easily eliminated. Withering of the leaf may occur due to:
- Direct sunlight, falling on it (output - rearrange to a place with scattered light);
- Non-use of greenhouses, and at the initial stage a small greenhouse is simply necessary, as it will provide the necessary level of heat and moisture, create a special microclimate;
- Waterlogging of soil;
- Damage during the transplantation of roots, which let the leaf, the process requires care and accuracy;
- Too large sheet, it is best to cut it to 2/3.
Among the blooming indoor plants, gloxinium occupies an honorable place. Description, reproduction, care, planting - all these issues discussed in this article will allow you to create your own home garden filled with bright colors. The plant only seems capricious, in fact growing gloxins is an uncomplicated and fascinating activity that brings tremendous results that please the eye and warm the soul.
