Glossalgia (disease of the tongue) - cracks in the tongue

Glossalgia (paresthesia of the tongue) is one of the neurostomatological diseases of the tongue. Often patients complain of painful sensations, dryness in the area of the tongue, pronounced puffiness, burning sensation, eventually cracks appear in the tongue. Independently glossalgia can not disappear, medical intervention is necessary.

Symptomatics

As a rule, when examining clearly expressed changes, pathology is not detected. In rare cases, hypertrophy or atrophy of salivary, filiform papillae and mucous glands on the surface of the tongue can be observed. Also, there may be a small swelling, swelling, constant dryness in the oral cavity. Saliva acquires a viscosity and foaminess. In the advanced stage, cracks appear in the tongue, small ulceration.

Painful sensations are localized in the laterals and at the tip of the tongue. The pain can become aggravated and subside, depending on the foods eaten - sharp, marinated dishes exacerbate the condition. Unpleasant sensations with a burning sensation appear paroxysmal and can quickly disappear or intensify intensively. Constant painful sensations deprive the person of rest, oppress mentality.

Cracks in the language: the causes

One of the causes of glossalgia is stagnation of blood, a violation of capillary blood flow in mucous membranes. This may be due to the disease of the endocrine system, the digestive tract, the central nervous system, the appearance of microcurrents arising from the established prostheses of different metals. According to the statistics of glossalgia, people older than 50 years are subject, very rarely this pathology occurs at a young age of up to 25 years and mainly in women.

It is pain that leads a person to help a dentist, but, in addition to pain, the patient has a number of failures in the functioning of body systems. In 75% of cases, patients with cracks in the tongue help to identify gastritis, enterocolitis and chronic colitis, in 10% - cholecystitis and hepatitis. Also, cracks in the language signal violations of the hypothalamus - the department in the nervous system responsible for the vegetative function. This department regulates metabolic processes, mechanisms of wakefulness and sleep, cardiovascular activity, excretory and digestive system ...

In people suffering from this pathology, the work of the hypothalamus is somewhat different, incorrect. The reasons may be different, but more often it is associated with influenza infection, acute respiratory viral infection, intoxication, trauma, circulatory disorders. Violations of the work of this department are accompanied by vascular dystonia, pain in the intestines, stomach (the chair changes). To provoke the disease can be a psychological factor, fatigue, stressful situations.

It should be noted that the pain and cracks in the tongue are also in other diseases - the neuropathy of the lingual nerve, with insufficient cerebral blood flow. Prolonged wearing of dentures can also cause the listed signs.

Cracks in the tongue: treatment of glossalgia

Methods of treatment are appointed individually depending on the main focus of the disease. Before eliminating pathological impulses from the dentoalveolar system and the oral cavity (the dentist's task), the patient should be examined by a neuropathologist, therapist and, if necessary, other doctors. The first thing you need to do is to remove the defects of the teeth, remove dissimilar metals from the mouth, fix the bite, cure the temporomandibular joint (for arthrosis, dysfunction).

And only then proceed to another therapy. Usually, patients with glossalgia are prescribed medicamentous treatment aimed at improving cerebral circulation and oral tissues. In addition, physiotherapy procedures, hirudotherapy (treatment with leeches), percutaneous electroneurostimulation with the help of Chans apparatus are prescribed. A favorable therapeutic effect comes in a month.
