Ganpauder (tea): benefit and harm

Green tea ganpauder is produced in the Chinese province of Zhejiang in the east of the country. Its name was given to the drink because of the leaves, the appearance of which resembles gunpowder. In the Middle Kingdom, tea is known as "Lui Zhu", which means "Green Pearl" in Russian.

History of origin and production technology

Ganpauder (tea) appeared long ago, even at a time when the Tang dynasty was in power (618-907). In England, it was brought in the XVII century, and in the US it could be purchased since the XIX century.

Despite the fact that by the standards of those years its cost was quite high, the drink managed to gain immense popularity in the countries to which it was supplied. Later, its production increased markedly, which led to lower prices. For a long time this type of Chinese tea was the leader in terms of exports.

In 1850, tea appeared on the territory of North-West Africa. The inhabitants of the continent first came up with brewing it with mint and adding ice and sugar. This tradition is common in modern Spain and France. The Chinese legend says that the ganpauder emerged from a pearl, which the dragon and the phoenix bird lost on the ground. In the last century, packages with this tea were called "pea leaves".

For primary assembly only young leaves are suitable. During the next stage cuttings are removed from the raw material. The process of roasting is accompanied by a man who is fanning tea raw materials. The accumulation of large amounts of hot air results in loss of herbal flavor.

After roasting, the leaves are laid out on a plate and fanned until completely cooled. The next stage of processing is the twisting of cold raw materials into dense balls. Rounded tea leaves are placed in a cauldron and continue to knead until they lightly begin to emit a tender smell when lightly touched.

This processing technology allows the leaves to preserve the richness of their essential oils with repeated brewing. In addition, they can be stored for a long time without losing the properties that have fresh tea leaves.

The process described above does not include the fermentation procedure, which means that the drink you have will have as many vitamins and useful elements as the newly collected sheets.

Kinds

The most popular in Europe are the following varieties:

  • The Taiwan Gunpowder. Tea is processed using the same technology as oolong tea. Leaves can be purchased in toasted and raw form. Taiwanese "pearl tea" can be found in the form of tiny balls and tubes.
