Fracture of ankle: first aid and treatment

If a fracture of the ankle occurred, the victim should know that he has now completely lost the ability to move independently. In such a trauma, it is necessary first of all to attract the attention of passers-by, colleagues, family members, etc. Naturally, the injured person must be delivered in time to the medical institution for first aid, competent treatment and prevention of possible consequences. Fracture of the ankle may have a different severity. Let's consider its basic types and measures of rendering of the first aid.

Since this element of the musculoskeletal system is a rather complex device consisting of a large and small tibia, as well as foot bones and other connective tissue formations, then there may be a great variety of its injuries. The main thing is to determine the nature of the damage in time and, if necessary, to take an operative intervention. Only a doctor can tell exactly what happened in a particular case - rupture of the ligaments of the ankle joint, its dislocation, fracture or something else. From the point of view of the general clinical picture, bone structure is distinguished for isolated, that is, when the internal or external part of the ankle, the tibial, posterior or anterior edge of its distal end is fractured.

In addition, fracture of the ankle joint is characterized by the principle of combining the bones forming it, with the formation of fragments and without them. The most complex of them are those during which there is also a dislocation with the displacement of the fragments. In the latter case, undoubtedly, a complex reconstruction operation is used. The first sign of the above-described injuries is primarily a violation of the function of the joint. In addition, there is sharp pain, changes in size and structure, swelling and bruising. To reveal the true state of affairs, an x-ray examination is carried out in several projections. In the simplest cases, the patient can move himself and perform ankle joint treatment without detaching himself from everyday life.

Any person should know that the first action with such damage to this part of the foot is its complete immobilization. If possible, a tight bandage should be applied and a cold object applied to the affected area for a short time. It should be canceled that you need to go to a medical facility even when it may seem that there is no fracture, and there is only a bruise. After all, the first impression can be deceiving.

With a competent approach, any, even a very complicated fracture of the ankle joint can be cured. The main thing, as it was mentioned above, is to turn in time for help and not allow self-treatment and treatment without the doctor's supervision. As a rule, in the most difficult cases, the therapy takes about 3 months, after which the recovery period necessarily follows. Medical statistics show that most people with a competent approach are fully rehabilitated for a given period of time.
