Fourcade Martin: biography of the French biathlonist

Fourcade Martin is one of the best French biathletes. Champion of the Olympic Games in 2014. Marten is the younger brother of the no less gifted biathlete Simon Fourcade.

Carier start

Initially, the parents gave the two brothers to the hockey section, but, since she was away from home, they could not always take the children there. Therefore, Simon and Martin moved to the cross-country skiing section . Over time, the brothers were tired of just running around, and they "threw the rifles behind their backs."

Marten Fourcade (photo below) very successfully came to the sport. The beginning of his work coincided with the completion of the career of Raphael Poiret - the legendary biathlete, who decided to leave skis and engage in coaching. In many of his interviews, Martin stated that Poiret is his idol.

During the first two years, Fourcade did not stand out as anything special. He always managed to get into the point zone, but there were no victories and medals. No wonder they say that biathlon is considered an "adult" sport. The achievements of Norwegian Bjoerndalen at the last Olympiad only confirm this.

Season 2009-2010

Fourcade Martin became known in 2010, when he won silver in the mass start at the Olympic Games. After that, he won three times at the World Cup competitions. Once in Kontiolahti and twice in Oslo. This allowed him to take the fifth place overall. His brother became the seventh.

Season 2010-2011

For Fourcade this was a successful season. He started with three hits in the top 5 in Ostersund. Then he took 2nd place in Ruhpolding in all three races. And winning the mass start in Fort Kent and Antholz allowed him to come to the World Cup as a clear favorite.

Thanks to the high speed and accuracy of Martin, the French national team took the 3rd place in the mixed relay race. Fourcade himself got a silver medal in the sprint and gold in the pursuit (despite three misses). At the end of the season, the biathlete got to the 3rd place overall in the World Cup.

Season 2011-2012

Before the start of the season, Fourcade Martin set himself a clear goal - to take the 1 st or 2 nd place in the scoring table. This task he began to implement immediately, at the first stage, having won the pursuit race and the individual race. Even before the end of the season it became clear that the athlete will take the 1 st place in the overall World Cup standings. In addition, Marten received Small Crystal Globes in pursuit and in sprint.

Season 2012-2013

It was opened by the victory of the Frenchman in the Swedish Ostersund (individual race). In the sprint everything was not so successful - only 10th place. But then Fourcade was able to win the race in pursuit. The subsequent stages were not very successful: the Frenchman did not occupy the first places. The reason for this was the shoulder injury he received in Oberhof.

The absence of Svendsen at the pre-Olympic week in Sochi allowed Marten to win two races from two held. In an individual competition for 20 kilometers Fourcade missed only once, eliminated a 60-second lag from the leader - Binbacher. As a result, Marten's advantage at the finish was 7 seconds. In the sprint competition for 10 kilometers the Frenchman did not make a single miss and confidently took the first place, bypassing silver medalist Yevgeny Ustyugov for 40 seconds.

The last stage of the World Cup, held in Khanty-Mansiysk, became a triumph for the Frenchman. Fourcade won the sprint race, not allowing a single miss. In pasyute he could not achieve such success. Martin missed every turn, making 5 mistakes.

Despite a number of setbacks, in the end of 2013 Fourcade still overtook his main rival Svendsen by 421 points, thus breaking the record for the number of points scored for the season. Also, the biathlete has won the Crystal Globes in all kinds of races.

2014 Olympics

February 8, Martin Fourcade, whose photo is attached to the article, took part in the sprint race. Unfortunately, on the leash he missed. As a result, the athlete had to be content with the 5th place.

On February 10, he participated in the pursuit race, where he had no equal. Biathlete missed just once. In addition, the technique of the skating course of Martin Fourcade was flawless. No wonder he was the first.

On February 13, Martin participated in an individual race in the Laura complex. Again, the athlete - one miss and a second gold. The second place was taken by the German Erich Lesser, and the third by the Russian Evgeny Garanichev.

All fans of biathlon were waiting for a fierce struggle between Svendsen and Fourcade. And it was held on February 18 at the mass start. The duel was very exciting. To determine the winner, the judges had to review the photo finish. This was Svensen's 4th victory at the Olympics.

Relay race 4 × 7.5 km completed the Olympic biathlon. Marten Fourcade though ran at the last stage, but could not help the French team. As a result, she did not get on the pedestal.

Character and views

  • The main advantage of Martin is reliability, and the main drawback is egocentrism. He tries to eradicate it in every possible way.
  • Most of all in life, he fears the death of loved ones.
  • The most necessary subject for a biathlete is a telephone.
  • He does not like gifts.
  • Wants to change her hair.
  • He has only one real friend.
  • Happiness for him is to do what he likes and often be close to his close people.

When asked by journalists about what he will do after the end of his career, Fourcade Martin usually answers that it's too early to think about it. But, most likely, he will either remain in the sport, or "live in a beautiful castle with the princess long and happy, and, of course, will have many children with her."

In general terms, this is his whole biography. Marten Fourcade at the moment is one of the most famous and popular biathlonists of the world.
