Add or Remove Programs: Key Points

Work on the computer is constantly accompanied by a procedure such as installing and uninstalling programs. In spite of the fact that quite a lot of applications are integrated into the system, as a rule, they are not enough for the most effective work. In addition, many third-party software products perform tasks much better than standard Windows tools.

Although installing and uninstalling programs is fairly simple, a number of points should be considered. For those applications that are installed from removable media (disk, flash drive), usually there is an autoloading mode. The process starts immediately after connecting external media to the computer. In this case, the user can only follow the installation algorithm. With some applications, additional software is installed simultaneously, so you need to carefully read all the messages that appear during the installation process.

If the application does not have autorun, then it is installed through a file with the extension .exe. All executing files have this format. If the program has a complex structure consisting of directories and subdirectories, then setup.exe is provided for the installation, which starts the download process in two clicks. It is not recommended to install the software directly from removable media. It is suggested to copy the program files to the hard disk and install the application from there already. In addition, freely distributed products can be downloaded directly from the Internet.

Those programs that get to the user archived, can also be placed in a separate folder to unpack immediately before downloading. When installing the program, it should be remembered that the installation and removal of applications go hand in hand and are carried out through a special system tool "Setup Wizard", which is built into Windows. You can open it by going to "Start" in "Control Panel" and finding the "Add or Remove Programs" section in the menu.

It is important not only to install, but also to uninstall the programs correctly, that is, through the "Wizard". If the deletion is incorrect, some of the program files remain on the computer, and gradually accumulating, slows down its work. And it does not depend on the OS in which you install or remove programs: Windows 7, XP or Windows 8.

Removal of programs occurs through the selection in the "Control Panel" of the corresponding menu. After waiting to build a list of all the applications present, select the desired one and click "Delete". If the installation process is XP-familiar, you should know that installing and uninstalling programs in Windows 7 will be similar, without causing any problems.

In order to ensure complete removal, you need to go to the address where the program was saved, and to check if there was a folder with files containing application components there. If such a folder is available, then it should be deleted through the combination "shift + del".

As you can see, the installation and removal of programs is quite simple and should not cause any difficulties for the user who has mastered the basics of working on a PC.
