Flowers for the flower bed

Beginners often repeat the same mistake, tempted by beautiful packages bought in the store seeds. And meanwhile, different plants for the flower bed require different care, different terms of sowing, and bloom at different times. A tempting picture often does not correspond to reality. But wisdom comes with experience. Let this brief excursion into the flowers for the flower bed be your initial experience, preventing possible errors at the first steps of the florist-beginner.

Take for the rule: bags with a mixture of different seeds should not be purchased. "Saved" on a variety in one package, you will not see a beautiful flowerbed. What happens when the miracle seeds give seedlings? You are confused. After all, the weed must be cleaned, otherwise it will "muffle" the sown flowers. And how can we distinguish between shoots of weed from crop plants? Each flower gives its shoots, characteristic. Just imagine how hard it will be for you to understand this diversity. In addition, each flower has its own height. And there is no guarantee that the lower plants will not hide behind the higher ones. Consider also the fact that for each plant there are its terms of sowing, flowering, its temperature regime. Something will perish even with light spring frosts, something - from direct rays of the sun, something - from excessive humidity, which is needed in one color and destructive for others ...

Buying in the store seeds or grown flowers for the flowerbed, do not ask for "unpretentious and cute." You should already know exactly what you want to see your flower garden. And accordingly choose suitable plants for the flower bed.

Suppose you like accurate low border. Stop on the nemophile, limnantes, phlox, pansies, escholtsii.

Nemofil is not high (up to 25 cm), with openwork leaves. The most common are three types: blue, white with a blue crab, and almost black with white edges. You can plant all three varieties, while receiving a bright composition. These annuals, which survive the penumbra, are planted in May (light frosts are not terrible), and the first flowers are pleased at the end of June.

Limnantes Douglas - in our gardens the guest is still rare. Very unpretentious, with delicate, touchingly elegant flowers: bright yellow center and white petals. Ideal for bordering curbs, alpine hills. Sown in early May, the seeds by June will turn into charming little bushes, generously strewn with flowers.

Annual flox blossoms abundantly and for a long time. Conventional shrubs reach 50 cm, dwarfs do not exceed 20 cm. The color spectrum is diverse. In the stellate form, this is usually a combination of white, pink and red, with simple - the variations are endless. Often sold in a mixture of seeds. The flowering period is very long (July-October). Drought-resistant. Just gorgeous in separate baskets and decorated boxes.

Eschsolcia (the "California poppy") grows even on dry sandy soil. There are several of its varieties: simple, semi-double, terry. The life of a flower is limited to one day. But the wilting flowers are replaced by new ones. Essholtsiya nepriveredliva, but on clay soils and in the shade will perish. Seeds are sown in two stages: the first time in April-May, the second time in a month and a half, in May-June.

Pansy, or violet, or viola, is usually grown as a biennial. Sown in July-August, it will safely overwinter and bloom with the onset of spring. But to please the eye, cute faces of violets can also fall, until the snow falls. For this purpose, the seeds are sown earlier (in May), the seedlings are grown in the shade, and at the end of August they are planted on the flower bed. The variety of viola is amazing. It is difficult to choose one kind. Try to plant a mixture of "Rocco" or "Crystal". In these series of wavy flowers you will find both amazingly blue, and bright yellow, and snow-white, and even black.

Well, lovers of luxuriant flower beds are offered: cosme, proud, lavatera. Of course, the list is great, but we will stop for the time being on three plants. And gaining experience, you eventually decide for yourself what flowers for the flowerbed can be planted yet.

Kosmeya for a long time was considered a flower rather banal, awkward and constantly "walking" with the wind, "bowing" in different directions. The modern cosmea is medium-sized (50 cm), compact, of various color solutions. Sold in separate grades (not in mixtures).

A proud, like azalea, is known widely and is loved by many. Pleases with colors of various colors, from monophonic to motley. If you decide to stay at the proud, choose dwarf varieties: they do not need support and garter. Already a month and a half after sowing this beauty will please you with its elegant double flowers.

The Lavator is simply created for those who are hungry to have a plush flowerbed, not much to fork out. Sown in April, she will show the first white-pink-raspberry bells in June and will bloom until the cold. Just remove the fading flowers.

Annual flowers for the flower bed are convenient primarily in terms of the possibility of annual updates and additions. But what if you do not have the opportunity (or desire) every year to plant and transplant? Perennial flowers for the flower bed will be an excellent solution. Try to plant in the background of praying and miscanthus. For the second plan, in this combination, the sedum prominent, the goldenrod hybrid, the cat is perfect. Well, in the foreground will be appropriate shrub aster with a brightly colored geyrherelloyey. For framing suitable soil cover plants such as thyme and sedum.

Do not be afraid to experiment. The main thing when buying seeds, pay attention to the growth conditions (land, shadow, sun), the time of sowing, planting and flowering, the height of the plant, the shelf life of the seeds. Good luck!
