Feeding turkey in the first weeks of life
The main advantages of turkeys are rapid weight gain, omnivorousness and, of course, delicious meat. It is these qualities that prompt owners of their own plots to think about the breeding of these birds. To ensure that the bird grows without problems, remaining healthy, and subsequently able to give the same healthy offspring, will require painstaking care, including the construction (equipment) of the room, maintaining the temperature and its adjustment, proper nutrition.
- grain legumes and cereals (emphasis on buckwheat and oats);
- meal and cake (contain the necessary amino acids);
- flour, fish, meat, meat and bone, blood (a source of calcium, amino acids, phosphorus and protein);
- green fodders (contain carbohydrates);
- needles (in winter - an additional source of such an important vitamin C);
- hay and straw (contain fiber, which helps the bird digest food);
- acorns, nuts (compensate for the need for fat and make the meat juicier and more tender).
Begin feeding turkey is better with steeply cooked and finely detailed eggs, mixed with manga (instead of mango, fine oatmeal or wheat cereal will suit ), with the addition of grated carrots and greens (also very finely chopped).
In order not to damage the beaks, the food gets laid out in the first days on a veneer or cardboard.
The first three days of feeding turkeys are carried out on the eight-scheme (in three hours, including at night). By two months (gradually removing by feeding, that is, increasing the time interval), the amount of feeding is reduced to four (the dosage is increased in this case).
Below is a diagram where you can feed the turkey to a month (the ration is designed for the head).
Until the sixth day:
- 5 grams of cereals (millet, wheat cereals, barley darts);
- 2 grams of wheat bran;
- 2 eggs;
- 2 g of cottage cheese;
- 3 g of reverse;
- 3 g of herbs;
- 2 g of carrots.
From the sixth day to the tenth:
- 8 grams of cereals (millet, wheat cereals, barley darts);
- 4 grams of wheat bran;
- one egg;
- 5 g of cottage cheese;
- 10 g of reverse;
- 1 g of meat-bone meal ;
- 0.2 g of yeast;
0.05 g of fish oil;
- 8 g of herbs;
- 5 g of carrots;
- 0.5 g of shell, chalk;
- 0.1 g of fine gravel.
From the eleventh day to the twentieth:
- 12 g of cereals (derti barley, millet, wheat cereals);
- 4 g corn cereals;
- 5 grams of wheat bran ;
- 10 g of cottage cheese;
- 12 g of reverse;
- 5 g of meat-bone meal;
- 0.3 g of yeast;
- 0.2 g of fish oil;
- 10 g of carrots;
- 5 g of boiled potatoes;
- 0.8 g of chalk and shell;
- 0.1 g of common table salt;
- 0.3 g of gravel.
Further up to a month:
- 20 g of cereals;
- 8 g of corn;
- 8 grams of wheat bran;
- 10 g of cottage cheese;
- 15 g of return;
- 8 g of meat and bone meal;
- 0.5 g of yeast;
- 0.5 g of fish oil;
- 20 g of herbs;
- 12 g of carrots;
- 10 g of boiled potatoes;
- 1.5 g of chalk with shell;
0.2 g of salt;
- 1 g of gravel.
Obligatory is the constant availability of clean water (not thawed, not rain, not from water bodies). Once a week for the prevention of pessis (a dangerous disease), ordinary water is replaced with a solution of manganese (weak, pale pink).
Drinkers with feeders keep clean (periodically they should be scalded with boiling water).
As you can see, feeding and caring for turkeys is not particularly difficult. The main thing is to follow the regime, monitor the quality of the feed and cleanliness.
