Features of Vertical Blinds

There is information that the first blinds appeared in the 18th century. True, the first patent was registered in the middle of the 19th century, it is known that similar "curtains" were used much earlier.

The main purpose of blinds is to control the streams of sunlight into the room. The first and most common type of blinds were horizontal. Until the middle of the 20th century, they were made of wooden plates. When the most popular object was metal - and they began to make metal. The design has not changed even today: the bars are fastened with threads and located one above the other. Thus, access to the room can be covered almost completely.

Vertical blinds, probably, appeared in our houses in a different way. Most likely, this is a symbiosis of the curtains of the doorway (which was used in the Middle Ages) and the layout of the horizontal blinds. Thus, the vertical blinds received their recognition and popularity somewhat later. Vertical blinds, in contrast to horizontal, are most often made of fabric materials. They let in more light, but they look much more aesthetic.

The convenience of vertical blinds is also that they are made individually for the specific size of your window. Vertical blinds consist of the following parts: control mechanism, control cord and its plummet, runner's corkscrew, sprocket, lower chain and control chain with connector, swivel rod, lamellae, lamella holder, plumb bob, cornice, slider, plastic sleeve etc.

There are two generally accepted standards of blinds: European (width of lamellas is 127 mm) and American (width of lamellas is 89 mm). If the room in which you want to install blinds, non-standard, then you can use the sloped blinds. All fabrics for vertical blinds have a different composition: based on polyester, jacquard fabrics, non-flammable, fiberglass-based, with the addition of flax and many, many others. All fabrics are treated with dust repellent.

Blinds with wide lamellas are usually used as interroom partitions or for large window openings, and narrow ones for small windows. The most used materials for lamellas are fabric and plastic, less often use aluminum, wood and bamboo. It is very important to consider whether the color will be in harmony with the color of furniture and walls. Even if the colors or their shades are slightly different, it can spoil the entire color range of the interior.
