Engine start in winter

Starting the engine in winter at a temperature with a mark below 18 degrees can be associated with certain difficulties. The most important of them is that after a long time the car is on the street, its engine completely cools, the oil, which is in the crankcase, thickens to the consistency of sour cream. Only after the motor is warmed up, the vehicle is started relatively easily, and just as easy to start after that. But again, such an effect is possible only if the downtime during the day is not particularly high. During the winter operation, especially when the thermometer's column falls below 25-30 degrees, it is not recommended to leave the car in the frost for more than a couple of hours.

Proper vehicles with regulated electrical equipment and power systems that are well prepared for the winter period, as a rule, do not create practically any difficulties with such a process as starting the engine in the winter. If the owner of the car does everything right, then he is not afraid of even frosts at forty degrees.

Running a gasoline engine in winter (and diesel) completely depends on the motorist's available skills, from his experience. As a rule, having already passed several cold periods, he knows perfectly well what and in what sequence he needs to do in order to start the engine in winter. He knows and feels how much he needs to cover the air dam, when it is, on the contrary, open, whether it is necessary to press the gas or wait, and so on. As a rule, novice motorists do not possess these skills, and in practice simply follow the advice or own intuition.

There are no universal methods for how to start the engine in winter. For example, that is perfect for a carburetor, it can harm the injector, and if this is the way to start a diesel engine in the winter, then the car can generally come into disrepair. Also, what is acceptable for new engines, is not at all suitable for worn out engines.

The most optimal option is to follow the instructions for using the car. In it, the sequence of starting the car, as a rule, is painted step by step. If it does not exist or the vehicle is still capricious and does not yield to any manipulation, then it will be necessary to gain experience by trial and error.

Despite the fact that you can not give any universal advice, there are few general rules, adhering to which, it is possible to greatly facilitate the start of the engine at a low temperature. The main thing is to turn on the lights at the very beginning, for about 15 seconds. Such a small load can heat up the electrolyte in the battery itself, give it strength. But here it is important to note that at the very start of the headlight it is necessary to switch off, and also to disconnect the radio cassette recorder and the heater (if they were switched on), because at that moment no unnecessary energy consumers are needed.

The next tip is that you can start the engine only with the clutch fully depressed pedal, only after starting it can be omitted. It is also very important to pay attention to the fact that the launch attempt itself should not exceed 10 seconds, and the break between unsuccessful should be at least half a minute. And there is no point in repeating more than four attempts in a row, since for the most part it will lead to nothing, it is better to try to eliminate possible malfunctions and start all over again.

If the problem with starting is not in the operations, but in the malfunctioning of the system, the vehicle should be sent to the car service center or left until warmer days. The driver himself can not fix much in the cold, except that quickly replace the candles responsible for ignition, sometimes it helps. Also, a launching liquid that is specially sold for these purposes can help. After several injections, the start is guaranteed, but only on condition that all the ignition and power systems are working properly.
