End milling cutter for locksmith

As usual, the end mill is initially performed with several cutting blades, or, as they say, with teeth. Among all types of this locksmith, there is an impressive variety, depending on the geometric design: cylindrical, conical, end, end, worm and others. They are capable of processing various materials - stainless steel and hardened, wood, graphite, cast iron, copper, aluminum. The composition of the material of the cutting part of the milling cutter is always very hard; It can be ceramics, high-speed steel, cermets, diamond stones, solid carded wire. The design of the milling cutter is carried out in its entirety, when it consists entirely of one material, in a welded version, where the shank and the cutting part are welded together. Napaynye tools place on themselves soldered cutting elements, and prefabricated - consist of different material, however, they are assembled with fastening elements - screw, bolt, nut. The end milling cutter belongs to a group of tools that differ in the special manner of fastening in the collet of the machine. A reliable clamping is performed using a tail of a cylindrical or conical shape. The teeth on the cylindrical section are located exactly as the blades on instruments of a cylindrical type.

The end type is often used together with a hand-held machine or a milling cutter. End cutters for wood are divided into:

  • End keyed with tails of cylindrical and conical shape;
  • Ordinary with a pitch of teeth of non-uniform order;
  • Keyholes made of hard alloy;
  • Equipped with solid crowns and screw plates;
  • For segmented keys;
  • For T-shaped grooves.

Manufacturers of mills are selling a great variety of end tools. However, all models share a number of common elements.

  • Cutting edges. A typical end mill may accommodate one or more cutting edges. One edge is in demand in cases where high productivity is needed, and the cleanliness of the working surface refers to a minor issue. For the processing of wood, cutters with two cutting edges are used. This provides a certain balance between the quality of the work done and the efficiency. Cutting edges can be made both from high-speed steel, and from hard alloy. The end carbide cutters, as a rule, cost a little more.
  • Shank. It is characterized by its diameter and length. The diameter, as usual, should match that in the collet of the machine. Collets with dimensions of 8 and 12 mm are considered standard in European countries. Although most of the world's manufacturers offer to their machines additional collets of different diameters. The length of the shank is not decisive.

And, finally, a thrust bearing. They do not have any end mills. The presence of the bearing makes it possible to perform profile milling, without resorting to a parallel stop - this role is assumed by the side face of the workpiece. Straightly moving along the face, the bearing determines the trajectory of the cutter's movement .
