DVR for home: description and characteristics

DVRs for the home are classified as devices that record and process signals that come from security systems. They are necessary for the translation of the image on the monitor, the archiving of records and their transfer to the local network. Such a device is the main element of video surveillance and directly affects the functioning of the entire system.

Purpose

Street hidden DVRs for the home notify the owners of the intrusion into the territory due to the possibility of fixing any traffic. In addition, they prevent the robbery of the house.

So, you can track the employment of workers on the site, regardless of its location. The monitoring system allows solving many controversial situations, for example, to identify the person who committed the crime, or to record the process of building various objects in the territory.

Kinds

Hidden DVRs for the house are divided into several varieties:

  • Mixed devices are multifunctional devices capable of recording, saving, translating and processing files from various cameras. They can be installed in any convenient place, the only drawback is a relatively high cost.
  • Network stores video, which is transmitted to them from digital devices. They are designed for installation inside the building and have limited functionality.
  • The digital video recorder of a private home provides recording, viewing and saving of files in video format. It is used in analog devices, has an expanded list of features, excellent recording quality, and its purchase is affordable for everyone.
  • Registrars for vehicles are designed only for recording and viewing video images. They are fixed inside the car on the windshield.

Each kind of device, as it becomes clear from the name, provides surveillance of the surrounding territory and recording of all that is happening. As the security systems, the greatest distribution was purchased by wireless equipment kits.

Benefits

Why else need a DVR? Cameras for the house are also used when it is necessary to monitor the parking lot, garage cooperative, warehouses and private property. Devices equipped with motion sensors and used on the street have many functions that are not inherent in the equipment installed in cars:

  • Record any movements. In the design there is an infrared receiver that fires on every sound and movement within the coverage.
  • The presence of a memory card ensures long-term preservation of files. In this case, it is possible to purchase cards with a large recording capacity.
  • Self-extracting files. If there is not enough free space on the card, the shooting will continue after the first recording is automatically deleted.
  • Protection from the negative impact of the environment. The presence of a special housing prevents moisture and dust from entering the internal elements.
  • The recording does not depend on lighting and other factors. The quality of the shooting remains high and clear at any time of the day.
  • Connect to a computer or TV.
  • Ability to view a file recorded at a specific time.
  • Equipped with a remote control allows you to adjust the mode of operation at a distance.

Characteristics

Any DVR for a home with a motion sensor has the following technical parameters:

  • The size of the frame.
  • Trigger on the movement.
  • Ability to choose the method of compression.
  • Several connectors for different camera types.

The device can be connected to several cameras at the same time, thanks to which all the adjacent territory is under control, and there is no need to purchase additional equipment.

Formats

Today, there are several basic compression formats. These include the following: H.264, MPEG4 and MJPEG. The latter option became less common after the appearance of more modern methods. A feature is the rapid use of free disk space due to the fact that the files are saved by encoding. The most popular format is MPEG4, it skips the identical frames, so the recording takes up a minimum of space and provides space saving for the following files. H.264 is a modern compression method, characterized by high definition and reproduction of images with rich hues. In addition, the recorded files require even less free space.

A DVR for 4 cameras for the home, equipped with a function of a trigger for movement, is activated when the smallest movement is in the coverage area, and the time of the survey can be changed. The optimal resolution is 720 by 526 pixels. Files in this format are displayed in full view and are very clear.

Principle of operation

After installing and turning on the recorder, the recording starts. All types of equipment have a common operating principle, with the exception of some features peculiar to some of them.

The device turns on during movement for a few seconds. However, it does not work on animals weighing less than 20 kg. The signal is transmitted to the DVR from the camera. Recording is performed for a set period of time and stored in memory on demand or immediately broadcast on the monitor. After detecting the source of motion, the signals can go to either one or several screens. This determines the installed mode and the number of connections. Files can be viewed not only during operation, but also after shutdown.

The principle of functioning of automobile equipment is somewhat different. Such devices start recording right after power-up and are produced until they are turned off.

Viewing Files

Access to the network device is possible through:

  • Applications for mobile phone. As a rule, these are programs for Android and iOS, there is also software for WindowsPhone and Blackberry.
  • Network clients for the computer. Linux is almost out of use, its place was taken by Windows, also meets MAC.
  • Browser on both mobile and fixed systems.

Hybrid devices

Today, increasingly common hybrid video recorders for the home. They can simultaneously combine analog equipment and IP cameras (or HD-SDI). Such systems have many positive aspects, among which the main are the following:

  • High quality video transmission, which does not depend on the distance between devices.
  • The economics achieved by the use of analog devices in the absence of the need for high detail.
  • Improve the efficiency of the existing system by adding several IP-cameras, for example, to fix individuals or areas of the territory for which a good detail is needed.

DVR-DVR for home

Modern systems can be supplemented by a different number of video inputs, the number of surveillance cameras determines this parameter. That is, a 16-channel device is designed to record and store data transmitted from 16 cameras. A stationary DVR for a home can have 64, 32, 16, 8 and 4 inputs.

It is also worth mentioning other key characteristics:

  • Resolution cameras in modern devices can be different, for example, megapixel or standard.
  • One system can be equipped with several recording devices with different operating principles (AHD + HD-TVI or IP + SD + AHD).
  • Ability to view from anywhere through the cloud storage. This function is especially useful when there is no static IP and if necessary, remote viewing of files.
  • Depth of archiving. A state-of-the-art 2-camera recorder stores records on the built-in disc, so files can be stored for a long time.

Choosing between budgetary and expensive equipment

When choosing a device, you should pay attention to its key parameters:

  • Number of audio channels. If the recorder has only one channel, there is a possibility that it is attached to a specific camera.
  • Hard disks. To budget systems, as a rule, you can connect one hard drive, there is also the possibility of having restrictions on the amount of HDD. Working with 3 TB disks on some devices may not be correct.
  • Convenient use of the archive and interface. Many DVRs for the home are not the most convenient to find the necessary files and the standard menu.

  • Alarm Inputs. They are designed to enable recording after the external sensors are activated. Despite the fact that most of the equipment is equipped with a software built-in detector, false alarms may occur due to various interference. The best option is to install additional security detectors. Due to the presence of several alarm inputs, it is possible to connect GSM alarms, sirens and other add-ons.
  • There is a special interface for controlling the camera type PTZ and using an additional panel.
  • Use a DVD-RW or CD-RW drive. At present, the need for this function arises less and less often due to the fact that many DVRs for the home can transfer the archive to flash cards.
  • Support for 3G modems. In their connection today, most often there is no need, since new types of modems are constantly appearing, and the former become irrelevant. The best option is to purchase a device with an integrated GSM-module if you need to access the system via mobile communication channels.

AHD technology

The main advantage of this technology is the transfer of files over long distances. It is carried out through a coaxial cable and maintains the same quality even at a distance of 500 meters. In this case, IP-systems can also transmit data over long distances, but only on the condition that a fiber-optic network is formed or supplemented with special equipment.

Since the signal quality is not affected by the quality of the equipment used, it is transmitted without delay, does not shrink and forms an informative image on the monitor. It is possible to transmit control signals and audio files.

Such a video surveillance recorder at home is not affected by interference, which is a frequent problem when transferring files, thanks to the availability of low-frequency technology. The installation scheme is similar to the installation of analog devices. Coaxial and combined cables are used for transmission. With the experience of using analog equipment, there is no need for special skills, which is especially important if the existing system is being supplemented.
