Dual Elastic Band: Application and Mating Technology

Many needlewomen are faced with the need to decorate the edge of the product with a double rubber band. For those who are just starting to master knitting, double rubber band can seem complicated in execution. But actually it's quite easy to link it.

Dual rubber band: its functions and function

Double (or else it is called hollow) gum plays almost the same role as usual: it gives the product elasticity and "squeezes" it on the necessary area. Often this is used by tying the edges of the sweaters, the neck of sweaters or cuffs. But the double gum does not end there. Specificity of this type of binding is such that the compression of the web is much more significant than with the usual rubber band. Therefore knitters often resort to this pattern, when it is necessary to fix the elastic edge of the product itself.

Double gum is not without reason called hollow. After all, in fact, it represents two knitted cloths, between which an empty space is formed. This creates additional possibilities for finishing. For example, through such an elastic band, you can easily pull out the wings or a lace, put on an elastic band for cuffs or a decorative tape. And if you use a yarn of two different shades and textures, then you will get two things in one: if you turn the product inside out, it will play completely differently. In addition, the double rubber eliminates unaesthetic and uncomfortable seams.

Double gum with knitting needles: step by step instruction

For work we will need yarn, knitting needles with a corresponding thickness number, and also an auxiliary thread. Experienced skilled workers are advised to take the knitting needles a little thinner than those that would be required for you when tying out the usual facial smoothness. So the elastic will be more elastic and more beautiful.

  1. We calculate the number of loops. To do this as accurately as possible, first we knit the control sample with the facial smoothness (one row - all facial, the second row - all purlins, etc.). We count the loops on a 10-centimeter length and multiply the result by two. For example, we have got 20 loops - this means that the double rubber band will consist of forty. Needless to say, as for any gum, the number of loops should be even.
  2. Remember the resulting number and type an auxiliary thread on the spokes half the number (in our example - 20). After that, the thread can be postponed: we will use the main yarn.
  3. In the first row we sew one by one: front, cape. We repeat to the end of the series.
  4. The second row will require you to turn the product, and we will see the underside of the rubber band in front of us. Now you need to tie each cape made in the previous row with a face loop. And each knotted loop is simply removed on the spoke in such a way that the working thread remains before knitting.
  5. The third and all subsequent series are knitted equally. That loop, which we shot in the previous case, we knit the front, and the tied front is removed in the same way as in the second row. As you can see, nothing complicated.

Having made several rows in this way, you will soon notice that the double rubber band really becomes hollow inside. Continue to the desired height, and then knit the main pattern. The auxiliary thread that we typed at the beginning can be gently disbanded. Done!
