Doppler examination in pregnancy

Doppler examination is one of the most reliable, safe, painless methods for detecting various pathologies. This type of diagnosis is used to study the kidneys, vertebral arteries, veins of the neck and head, arteries of the upper and lower extremities, for the detection of varicose veins. This study is also widely used in pregnancy. In this article we will consider this case.

What information does the Doppler study provide?

With the help of this method, doctors can assess how the pregnancy is going on, give predictions about its further course and forthcoming births. Doppler research allows not only to assess the condition of the uterine arteries and umbilical cord - with its help you can see the blood flow inside the child's heart and check for circulatory disturbances in the brain. Such a study helps to identify gestosis at an early stage, when pathology is manifested only by worsening of blood circulation in the uterus due to narrowing of its arteries. Subsequently, with this diagnosis, the pregnant woman develops swelling and pressure.

Heart disease, placental abruption, disruption of the normal functioning of the blood vessels of the placenta - all this and much more can be identified with the help of such a method as Doppler study. The price of this procedure depends on the clinic, where it is conducted. For prophylaxis, ultrasound dopplerography is prescribed at 23-24 and 30-34 weeks of gestation. However, if necessary, the procedure is carried out at any time of pregnancy.

When is doplerography needed?

The main indications for the procedure are:

  • Diseases of the pregnant (diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, problems with blood vessels)
  • Multiple pregnancies ;
  • Rhesus sensitization;
  • Gestosis;
  • Early maturation of the placenta;
  • Lag in the development of the fetus;
  • Pathologies of previous pregnancies;
  • Water scarcity, polyhydramnios;
  • Cord with the umbilical cord.

What are the norms of Doppler study, your doctor will tell. If any deviations from normal results are revealed, the doctor will correct the further management of pregnancy and take the necessary measures to prevent gestosis and delay the development of the fetus.

Degrees of severity of violations

I degree A - pathology of uteroplacental blood flow in normal fetal placental blood flow.

I degree B is a situation opposite to degree I A.

In this case, a checkup is necessary every 5-7 days, with a worsening of the condition - a daily Doppler study. In the absence of significant pathology, it is possible to maintain pregnancy and natural childbirth.

II degree - both blood flow disturbances, but deviations are not critical.

In this situation, a check-up is necessary every 2 days or daily in case of deterioration. If the gestation period is more than 32 weeks, and there are signs of severe fetal suffering, an emergency caesarean section may be performed.

III degree - serious pathology of the fetoplacental blood flow with preservation or violation of utero-placental.

With such a violation, a daily study is carried out and, as a rule, a caesarean section is performed.
