Does the intestine hurt? Cancer as a possible reason for this

At the age of 50, people often complain that their bowels are hurting. Cancer can be the cause. As doctors say, the disease usually occurs in older people. The tactics of treatment are influenced by various data, in particular, stages of intestinal cancer, symptoms, concomitant diseases, the age of the patient, the size and location of the tumor, etc.

Causes

Quite often, doctors can not indicate why the intestine is affected. Cancer can be a consequence of either one or a combination of many causes. Factors that are harmful to health and can cause the emergence of an oncology of this type are:

  • Chronic diseases of the digestive system in general and the intestine in particular. This is primarily inflammation of the intestinal wall, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease.
  • Food. Particularly harmful fatty foods and preservatives.
  • Age. According to statistics, 9 out of 10 people with intestinal cancer have an age of more than 50 years.
  • Diabetes.
  • A sedentary lifestyle that leads to stagnation of food and its fermentation.
  • Genetic predisposition.
  • Obesity.
  • Polyps and adenomas.
  • Alcohol.

Symptoms

Depending on the department in which the intestine is damaged, the cancer can manifest itself with various symptoms. In the early stages of the disease rarely makes itself felt. The first symptoms that patients most often notice are:

  • Blood in fecal masses (it may also be in a latent form, that is, it is invisible to look at, but found in the analysis of feces);
  • nausea;
  • Vomiting;
  • Diarrhea or constipation;
  • dizziness;
  • Eructation;
  • Elevated temperature;
  • fever;
  • anemia;
  • Loss of appetite ;
  • Dull pain in the abdomen (in almost 90% of cases);
  • Dry mouth;
  • Bloating.

In addition to the above symptoms, there may be others, because oncology of the intestine removes from work not only one organ, but also damages entire systems of the body. That's why the disease can be accompanied by jaundice, headache, discomfort in the chest and even a cough.

Diagnostics

Complaints of the patient allow the doctor to assess the situation and assign the necessary diagnostic methods. First of all, the patient must take a blood test for CEA (the antigen that is produced by the tumor) and the feces analysis for blood. Recto-manoscopy allows a good examination of the intestine. Cancer can be detected with the help of fibrocolonoscopy, using which, samples of neoplasm tissue are also taken for analysis. Remove polyps and diagnose the disease is possible thanks to a colonoscopy. Actually, for today this method of diagnostics is used most often.

How to overcome?

Treatment of bowel cancer is carried out mainly by surgical method. It is most effective. Modern medicine allows you to perform an operation in the early stages with the help of endoscopy, and the abdominal cavity is not cut. The effectiveness of treatment in this case is 97%. If the organ is more affected, it is necessary to remove both the tumor itself, and healthy surrounding tissues, as well as the nearest lymph nodes. In addition, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are also used to treat the disease.
