Different actors. "Nymphomaniac" is the main provocation of Lars von Trier

Another provocative film "Nymphomaniac" by the famous Dane Lars von Trier is built on frank templates, the comprehension and combination of which makes his creation original. From the light hand of the creator everything was mixed up in a world in which the Nymphomaniac invites: actors and roles, the relationship between the author and the characters, men and women, doctors and patients, fish and fishermen, fantasies and reality.

Playing with viewers

In his brainchild Trier boldly experimented with the mixing of cinematographers, especially by breaking the story narrative into separate chapters, he removes them using different techniques: the first - as a real melodrama, the next - as a comedy, another - almost like a mockery and mockery of the audience. Sometimes the idea of the director could not be foreseen even by the actors. "Nymphomaniac" is the most complicated project in the modern film industry. But to the final episode, the moment of the final credits from all the turmoil is a true masterpiece, a bold and powerful canvas.

Plot and actors

"Nymphomaniac" begins with the fact that some elderly man Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard) goes to the store for shopping. Accidentally, he finds in the gateway lying almost unconscious beaten up a young woman (Charlotte Gainsbourg). Since she begs the hero not to call either the ambulance or the police, he takes the stranger to his house, puts him to bed and tries to drink hot tea. The girl appears to Joe and agrees to tell the compassionate man how she came to such a life. The actors of the film "Nymphomaniac" authoritatively declare that the memories of the main character make the basis of the structure of the first part of the picture. The plot includes a story about life, from childhood and adolescence to the first sexual experience and a clear schedule for visiting a variety of partner lovers, generously diluted with games with strangers in the entrance. The romantic line slips quite unobtrusively, representing a longing for the only man who, strangely enough, managed to escape from the heroine. In the film, not only the episodes, but also the actors, change with timing. "Nymphomaniac" is special in that Charlotte Gainsbourg remains a storyteller throughout the picture, and as actress-debutante Stacey Martin as the young heroine. The role of the father was performed by Christian Slater. The first partner and the last in this part was played by Shaya Labaf. Well and the listener, the commentator, the expert on classical music, the higher mathematics and fishing - the Skarsgard mentioned above.

Performers of main and episodic roles

Charlotte Gainsbourg is an Anglo-French actress, songwriter and singer, an inseparable participant of almost every film Trier, Joe (middle age) is good and expressive. Her eyes are like a storehouse of suffering and wisdom. She began her acting career in France, playing the part of daughter Catherine Deneuve in the film "Words and Music" while simultaneously participating in the filming of her father's video clip Serge Gainsbourg. Promising performer soon won the French cinema award "Cesar", and in 1990 she bathed in the rays of international fame after participating in the film "Cement Garden".

Sophie Kennedy Clark - Scottish actress - the main character Joe in her youth, very sexy and desirable, which corresponds to the idea of the author. 2010 became a debut for a young talent, and in 2013 she became the owner of the prestigious award and the status of "The Most Stylish Woman". Film critics recognized her talent and presented the "best actress" award for the embodiment of the character from the film "Filomena".

Shaya Labeff is an American actor familiar to the viewer on the thriller "Paranoia" (2007) and blockbusters "Transformers" (3 parts). A real rising star. His Jerome in "Nymphomaniac" is elegant, but rather mediocre, patient.

Jamie Bell - English actor, played in the film the role of a hard sadist. Professionally engaged in ballet and tap dance. The actor-debutant has a number of prestigious awards. 2005 for Jamie is truly a star, in the rental came just three films with his participation. All the characters he plays receive positive reviews of critics, which strengthens the reputation of the actor. In the picture "Nymphomaniac" his character is represented by an evil obvious, but the evil hidden embodied the character of Jean-Marc Barre, who played the hidden pedophile.

Jean-Marc Barre is a French actor. He has been working in the cinema and theater since the 80s. But the formation of Barra's creative individuality was strongly influenced by the continued cooperation with Lars. He already starred in his paintings: "Breaking the Waves", "Europe", "Dancing in the Dark".

It is worth noting the performers of secondary roles - Connie Nielsen, Willem Defoe (known for the film "Antichrist"), Uma Thurman (Muse Tarantino) and Udo Cyrus.

Authors' narrative

While viewing the picture, the first thing that viewers pay attention to is the use of a proven literary technique, when the author's narrative is constantly interrupted by stories of individual heroes, and related to the events of the past. This way of submitting the material was considered the best actors involved in the shooting. "Nymphomaniac" has a proven structure: an illustrated flashback story about the sexual adventures of the main character is constantly interrupted by the listener's comments. In addition, the creator itself interferes with the narrative with an enviable periodicity, then deliberately ironically dividing the heroine's confession into chapters with names, then spreading the printed titles all over the screen, then demonstrating the freshly taken fish bite, then pointing to all sorts of references. All these authorial tricks are similar to the postmodern game, which Trier lets the viewer understand that we should not take what is happening on the screen unequivocally seriously. At the same time, it still manages to achieve a purely dramatic effect in the episode of the death of the father of the main character and cause hysterical laughter in a stunning scene with Uma Thurman.

Between the first and second

It is no accident that the film was divided into two equivalent parts, because the viewer draw any conclusions after getting acquainted with the first, without looking at the second, it would be at least silly. But a small gap between the release of the first and second parts was justified not by producer, but purely by aesthetic considerations. The first episode launched the spectator's imagination mechanisms, provoked it quite powerfully, much more strongly than it is done in "soap operas", whose authors traditionally end internal series sometimes without any apparent reason for the sharp turns of the plot.

A novel with a sequel

"Nymphomaniac. Part 2 »(actors: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Stacey Martin, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth) - the continuation of the first part, in which the burning story of wasted and lost feelings comes to its finale. The narrative of the second episode begins with the attempt of the main character Joe (now played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, not debutante Stacy Martin) to put the family life above her sexual adventures. She honestly tries to settle down, breaks relations with all lovers, marries a civil marriage with Jerome (Shaya Labaf), they have a child - the son of Marseilles. But this way of life is not for Joe. Soon, she again starts all the hard, eventually under the leadership of the Mafiosi (Will Dafoe) becomes a criminal.

This provocative tale, a parable for adults, many modern film critics christened an enlightened novel-upbringing. He irritates, angers, cheers, excites and frightens, evokes a lot of emotions, in which there is no place for tranquility and comfort. What else could you expect from Lars von Trier?
