Dentistry: Types of Implants

Dental implantology today most widely uses titanium materials and alloys. They are considered the most common, both in our country and abroad. Titanium materials have been used for many years and during this time have proven themselves only from the best side, and in almost 99.9% of all cases.

Most dentists prefer to use technical titanium, because, in addition to pure titanium, it contains a certain amount of iron (relatively large, one gram of iron per four kilograms of titanium). For implantation, the material is good for several reasons. It is biologically inert and has high anticorrosion properties, does not enter into chemical reactions with surrounding tissues.

Implantation of teeth often uses implants of the so-called root-like form as the main instrument. They look traditionally like a stepped cylinder with thread. Such designs are used especially often when the bone volume for implantation is large enough. Sometimes a dentist performs the procedure of a sinus-lifting, that is, the build-up of bone tissue, in order to implant an implant into it already. Although the manufacturers represent different root implants, in fact they all look like a titanium self-tapping screw.

Immediate implantation of teeth actively uses plate implants. Their advantages are manifested even in the specificity of implantation: insert such an implant into the bone can be much deeper than the root one. Thus, it is possible to obtain a good stability of the resulting prosthesis. If the bone is narrow and it is impossible to implant root implants, implantologists use a platelet variant.

Implantation of teeth also implies the use of other types of implants. Among them, the first place is occupied by implants of combined form, hybrids of implant plate and root. They can have a large size, a very complex configuration, they can easily be adjusted to the volume defects of the dentition.

It is important to note that all these implants are intraosseous, or endoosteal. Decide which option to choose in each case, can only an experienced specialist clinic "First Doctor". For example, express implantation of teeth often uses only one or two types of implants, which is explained by the complexity of their implantation. Cheap and unskilled doctors, by the way, can have only a couple of different implants and use not what will suit him, but what is. Even if the operation itself is carried out at a high level, still the new tooth will not survive and can bring discomfort or even pain. Therefore it is better not to trust non-professionals.

Professionals, in addition to intraosteal, use subperiosteal (subperiosteal) implants. Most often they are used in cases of resorption - a strong thinning of the jawbone. They are placed under the gum between the bone and the periosteum. The complexity of using this type of implant is explained by its specific design, which requires fine work. Correctly installed in the jaw, it will firmly hold, look attractive and effectively perform the natural functions of a natural tooth.
