Basal caries: causes and treatment

Almost everyone in his life has learned what a toothache is. A visit to the dentist is a rather unpleasant event, but when you can not sleep from excruciating pain or do your own business, you have nothing to do, you have to go. Problems with the teeth can be very different, and the pain is most often provoked by the destructive processes that began in the tooth. Practically everyone who treats a doctor with a pain diagnoses caries, he is of different kinds, but let's analyze what the radical caries is and how to cope with it.

What is this pathology?

This type of caries received this name because of its location. Developed defects near the border with the gum. The fractures begin quite close to the root of the tooth.

The process proceeds quickly, because in this part the tooth enamel has a minimum thickness, and in the place where the transition to the root begins, it does not exist. Any pathology of the teeth requires therapy, and the root caries of the front teeth in particular, as it spoils their appearance, and the person begins to hesitate even for his smile.

Causes of radical caries development

Most often this kind of pathology begins to develop after 30 years, and in retirement age it is due to his fault that a patient often loses his teeth. With age, even a healthy enamel becomes much thinner. If destructive processes begin, then they proceed very rapidly.

The basal zone is rather difficult to give good care, therefore, all conditions for the development of the pathogenic process and the accumulation of bacteria appear. It is in this part of the teeth that tartar is formed, which only contributes to the creation of a favorable environment for microorganisms.

Doctors also note the following reasons for the development of radical caries:

  • A great love for sweets.
  • Disorders of the endocrine system.
  • Problems with metabolism.
  • Poor quality of drinking water.

Why the radical zone is vulnerable

If you do not care for your oral cavity and do not follow its purity, caries can develop absolutely anywhere, but the root zone is the most vulnerable. And for what reasons:

  1. When we chew food, this part of the tooth does not take an active part in this process, which means that there is no self-cleaning with solid pieces of food.
  2. With the help of a toothbrush and with a surface cleaning, it is not possible to get rid of the remnants of food from the radical zone.
  3. If it is wrong to make movements with a toothbrush, the dentogingival pockets are filled with bloom.
  4. Cleaning with a hard brush leads to injury to this part of the tooth, the thin enamel is quickly thinned and wiped.
  5. If there is periodontitis or periodontitis, the root part of the tooth is exposed, and this is a good condition for the development of radical caries.
  6. If there is an inflammatory process on the gums, it contributes to the accumulation of plaque in pockets in large quantities.
  7. If there is a crown or a seal, then a carious defect arises under their edge.
  8. Crown, which has dimensions not at the height of the tooth, also serves as a place for accumulation of bacteria and plaque.
  9. If it is necessary to impose non-removable dental structures, this greatly complicates the cleansing of this zone, and very little time is required to develop radical caries.

As you can see, the root caries causes for its development quite extensive. Only regular visits to the dentist will help you avoid this pathology, or if it is found in a timely manner, it is wise to get rid of it.

Symptoms of the disease

Many of us sit until the last, until severe pain will not force to visit the doctor. But it is much easier to cope with the problem, if it is found at the very beginning of its appearance. Basal caries, the photo shows it, begins to show its symptoms like this:

  1. The tooth enamel changes its color.
  2. Appear small spots with outlined boundaries.
  3. Discomfort occurs during eating.
  4. The increased sensitivity of teeth to changes in food temperature and to mechanical influences develops.
  5. An unpleasant smell appears from the mouth.
  6. On the border of the tooth and gums a cavity is formed.

All these symptoms can be observed at the very beginning of the development of pathology, if the caries has already gone far, then the patient experiences:

  • Sharp pain while brushing teeth.
  • There are painful sensations with temperature changes.
  • When eating sweet or sour food, pain also occurs.

If you do not see a doctor in this situation, you can lose your tooth.

How to diagnose radical caries independently

You can recognize the problem without even visiting the dentist, just look in the mirror at your teeth. But it must be borne in mind that not all tooth defects in the basal area can be attributed to caries.

There are wedge-shaped lesions, which are often localized in this zone. They have the form of a wedge, the tip of which is located towards the center of the tooth.

The surface of the dentin, if the teeth are in order, should be firm and smooth. If you find unevenness, gum removal from the root of the tooth, inflammation during examination, then this is a direct indication of the need to visit a doctor.

It is not necessary to puzzle over the question: if there was a radical caries, what to do? Only a competent specialist will save you from this pathology, and you will again smile with a snow-white smile.

Visit to the doctor

As a rule, it is not difficult for an experienced specialist to accurately diagnose. Difficulties can arise only if the pathology is located on the contact surface and covered by an adjacent tooth.

The doctor examines the oral cavity and pays attention to the color and transparency of the enamel. The sounding of the oral cavity can take place without painful sensations, and may be accompanied by severe pain.

From the inflammatory process, the doctor will be able to distinguish caries by recording in the patient's card. If there is a chronic periodontitis and pains of this nature have already been, then we can assume an exacerbation of pathology. You can verify this by taking an X-ray.

Every year dentists have their own methods of diagnosis. One of them is transillumination. Its essence consists in examining the oral cavity under a powerful source of cold light. If there is a basal caries, a focus with pronounced contours with abnormal dimming is seen.

There are also caries-markers - their use is possible not only in the dental office, as they are absolutely safe for humans. Staining allows you to quickly identify a carious area.

Therapy of pathology

If radical caries is found , treatment should begin immediately. Therapy of such a pathology is practically no different from the treatment of ordinary caries. The chosen method of disposal will depend on the degree of the disease.

  1. If the pathology is found in the first stages of its development, the dentist remineralizes with the use of drugs that include magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and other important elements for teeth.
  2. The average weight of the caries causes the doctor to eliminate the affected areas and restore the tooth shape with the help of filling materials. If required, then you have to remove the pulp, clean the canal well and seal it.

Treatment of this kind of caries requires a doctor's experience and professionalism, as this zone is quite sensitive and is very close to the gum. Also, the dentist must take into account that in this place, as a rule, the filling material is not kept well, so it is worth choosing one that has high adhesion.

Traditional medicine in the treatment of caries

In the reserves of folk healers, there are also those that will help cope with caries:

  1. Well proven field horsetail. Powder of this plant for several months should be used in combination with honey.
  2. You can make a tincture of vodka and horseradish, hold it for three months and rinse your mouth several times a day. To make it, you need 50 grams of grated horseradish root, 20 grams of fennel fruit, 20 grams of mint leaves and 1 liter of vodka or alcohol. But do not get involved in such a tincture.
  3. Folk healers advise at the first signs of caries to replace toothpaste with dry milk. But most doctors are skeptical of this recommendation.

Of course, traditional medicine can help to get rid of pain and inflammation for a while, but how to treat root caries, only a competent specialist knows, so do not postpone visit to it.

Prophylaxis of caries

It is better not to allow caries to develop, than to treat it for a long time. Preventive measures include:

  1. Regular check-ups at the dentist.
  2. In the diet should be as little as possible refined carbohydrates.
  3. Food should not be too viscous and sticky.
  4. Regularly change the toothbrush and do not use too hard.
  5. Move the brush from the gum to the chewing surface.
  6. Pay special attention to cleaning and cleaning the mouth with non-removable structures.

Only careful oral care will help you avoid various problems and never experience painful toothaches. Do not delay the visit to the doctor. If we address the early stages of the development of pathology, then the treatment process, as a rule, does not cause pain and discomfort.
