Density of sand

Sand mankind has long used for construction needs, without it the house is not exactly built. It is actively used in dry building mixtures, which are sold in shops or as a component for the preparation of cement mortars. Building sand is used depending on its density, for example, some types are used to create a masonry mortar, others to produce a screed on concrete.

Sand - it is non-metallic, with a loose consistency of building material. As a rule, it is a mixture of grains 0.14-5 mm in size, which were formed during the natural destruction of rocks. There are several types of sand. They are characterized by different contents of small particles of clay or simply dust-like elements.

The cleanest of them and the best quality is river sand. The sea is worse, since it already contains salts from which it must be purified. The quarry sand and mountain are distinguished by the presence of unwanted clay, which means that the quality of the product is lower. Sand basically has such a composition: quartz and feldspars, as well as impurities in the form of silicates and all the same clay.

To describe this building material there is such a thing as the density of sand. It is estimated by the coefficient of porosity. For example, fine grains have an index of 0.75. The density of construction sand, its quality is always determined by the presence of clay in it. Builders like to work with a unique in terms of cleanliness - a river product. It has a density of 1.3 tons per cubic meter. The density of sand with a clay content is higher and is already 1.8 tons. In the same volume.

This material has for many years served as the basis for cement and concrete compounds. It is very in demand when laying roads, when blowing glassware and in agriculture.

In construction, the concept of density is of fundamental importance, which is the ratio of the mass of sand to its volume, it has units of measurement: g / cm3 and kg / m3. The natural bulk density of sand is 1300-1500 kg / m3.

For loose building materials, this indicator is variable and depends on the degree of compaction. It is meant that the same quantity of product occupies a different volume. The density of sand is invariably dependent on moisture, and any changes in it affect the bulk density. When the moisture content increases, the sand particles are covered with a layer of water and, correspondingly, the volume of sand increases sharply. It is the bulk density of sand with fluctuating humidity that is taken into account when calculating the dosage of sand to the required volume. If this factor is not taken into account, the building mix will not have the necessary margin of safety, and in general the engineering design will be of poor quality.

Now mostly use reclaimed sand, it is extracted simply - by washing career sand. This is done in this way: a large volume of water from it is washed out with clay and dust.

The density of construction sand depends on the structure of grains. For example, a high figure directly indicates that its composition is dense, especially strong and frost-resistant grains. It is this material with an increased coefficient that is indispensable for construction in permafrost conditions. It is the basis of high-strength concrete, with excellent frost resistance.

The density of quartz sand in the friable state is characterized by an indicator of 1500 kg / m3, but it can increase to 1,700 kg / m3. It is characterized by better hygienic characteristics and is a washed and calcined dry natural material. When using it in construction, high hygienic characteristics of the dwelling are ensured. The density of quartz sand is a very important parameter, which is taken into account when carrying out construction work.
