David Goloshchekin: biography

Musician Goloshchekin David Semenovich is famous for playing seven musical instruments, playing jazz for more than 55 years, playing with many great jazz musicians. And at the same time, little is known about his personal life, he carefully preserves his privacy, which has already become part of his legend.

Musical childhood

June 10, 1944 in Moscow was born the future musician David Goloshchekin. His family moved to the newly liberated Leningrad from Leningrad after six months. This city was dear and dear to Semen Goloshchekin, father of David. He worked for Lenfilm, he had many acquaintances in the bohemian environment of the Northern capital, was distinguished by great charm and sociability. There were always a lot of interesting people around him. David's mother studied at the ballet school, but the trauma did not allow her to professionally engage in this art. The boy grew up in the cheerful atmosphere of the Leningrad bohemia, he was very fond of music, often sang songs from famous movies. But in five years his life changed.

Difficult way to music

Little David's father once met with the rector of the Leningrad Conservatory Pavel Serebryakov and told him that his son always sings different songs from the movies. He advised him to take the boy to audition at the famous music school, the ten-year school. Mom took her son to school, he was played a melody on the piano, the rhythmic composition was chirped, the boy repeated everything exactly - he had an absolute hearing. So Goloshchekin David Semenovich got into the violin class of Tatiana Zakharina. He used to see the violin only in the window of a music store during walks near the Passage with his grandmother. David Goloshchekin did not know that the instrument would become his torment for many years. He was taken to the zero class, and he had to learn the scales for hours, while his contemporaries were playing soccer in the courtyard with screams. Years were needed for David to fall in love with the violin. In the family there is a legend about how my mother once broke a bow about his back, motivating him to study. In the second grade, he began to go to piano lessons, and then fell in love with his music school. At the age of 15, Goloshchekin was immediately transferred to the third year of the music school for a special class in the viola class, which was given to him quite easily, and he also attended the piano class. In 1961 he graduated from the Musical College. N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov.

Passion for jazz

At the age of 12, David began to get involved in pop music. His father bought him a radio receiver, and for a teenager, it was the best job to search for a musical wave. So he in absentia recognized many outstanding musicians of that time: Willis Konover, Nikolay Minch, Yuri Shakhnov. Also, great influence on David was provided by parties in the parents' house, on which the most fashionable music sounded. At school, his serious interest in jazz began. He became acquainted with the saxophonist Sasha Zverev, who saw great abilities in David. They began to be friends and listen to the most advanced music: B. Webster, I. Jack, K. Hawkins. So David Goloshchekin, whose jazz became destiny, found his new vocation. At the age of 16, he began to play at the dance, but continued to communicate with Sasha Zverev's company, which included several furious jazz fans.

The Beginning of Adulthood

When David was 16 years old, his parents divorced, and my mother left for Moscow. Father was busy with his new life, and the young man began to live independently. In the late 50's he met with pianist Yuri Vikharev, the organizer of the first Leningrad jazz club, a great connoisseur of jazz music and a great musician. David heard the best jazz pieces. In 1961 Vikharev decided to assemble a jazz ensemble and suggested Goloshchekinu to master the double bass and enter the collective. David erased all his fingers in the blood, but he learned to play the double bass in a matter of days. And a new life began for him.

The first scenic experiments

April 20, 1961 David Goloshchekin after several months of rehearsals for the first time came on stage at the Tallinn Jazz Festival. In the team of Vikharev, except David, saxophonist M. Dvorianchikov and drummer S. Streltsov entered. They did not play together for long, but this experience became very significant for David.

Career of a professional musician

After graduation, David Goloshchekin took shape as a pianist and violinist at the Concert Hall. Since 1962, he began to work in the collective in the review of Alla Kim and Shalva Lauri. Jazz at that time was impossible to earn, so for several years Goloshchekin had to combine a favorite affair with compulsory work in official teams. After the ensemble of Y. Vikharev, David comes to the octet of I. Petrenko, where he acts as a pianist. He did not have a large pianistic school, but at the school he managed to get the basic skills of playing the piano. In the octet, he develops new equipment, in this he is greatly assisted by Arkady Memhemes. He became Goloshchekin's mentor not only in mastering the piano, but also in the development of musical taste, it was he who instilled David's sense of swing. In the octet, David begins to make his first arrangements, they perform a lot, they work on television. Goloshchekin has numerous acquaintances. And when a year later the octet has disintegrated, it is already quite easy to find a new application. He plays in several groups, acts as a soloist and as a musician of ensembles, the official place of work for a while becomes an orchestra at the Palace of Culture. S. Kirov. He also begins to teach at the first jazz school at the invitation of Pavel's friend Nisman's friend.

In 1964, David auditioned in the orchestra of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but he could not work there: he went on tour, and the story remained incomplete. At the invitation of G. Holstein, he came to the orchestra of Joseph Weinstein, who was very famous at that time. Here Goloshchekin found a teacher and believed in himself. Later he will call the work in this orchestra the happiest period of his life. After a while, a whole group of this collective, including David, was called to the newly opened orchestra under the direction of E. Rozner. It was a very busy time, there were a lot of performances, Goloshchekin participated in many festivals, concerts, for some time he even directed the orchestra. In 1967, he left for a few months in Odessa, where he heads the Gambrinus-67 team, where he plays wind and violin. When he returned to Leningrad, the audience for a long time could not get used to the fact that David Goloshchekin, a photo of which often appeared in the press - a multi-instrumentalist, all used to seeing him as a pianist. By this time, David already had an excellent jazz reputation, even fame, and he increasingly felt the need for his team.

Ensemble of jazz music

In late 1968, at the House of Culture. F. Dzerzhinsky officially appeared ensemble of jazz music under the direction of D. Goloshchekin. It was based on a team that already existed for a while, playing in the jazz club "Square". The team included five people, David played in the Flugelhorn in it. In the Palace of Culture they regularly played the program "Two Hours of Jazz", and also gave concerts in other rooms. In 1972, the ensemble managed to record a record at the firm "Melody". Later, the director of this recording company V. Sukhorado decided that it would be nice to show such an excellent team abroad, and took up the organization of the ensemble's tours. Thanks to him Goloshchekin and the company performed at the Festival of Youth in Havana. This trip brought Goloshchekin the diploma of the laureate and many interesting acquaintances. Since 1982, David Goloshchekin and his ensemble have been working in the Moscow bar and are beginning to touring extensively. The team continues to work today, but David Semenovich plays a lot in other teams and solo.

Concert activity

Having given the first concert in 1961, Goloshchekin continues to appear on stage today. In 1971, Goloschekin received the greatest honor and played in the concert of Duke Ellington in Leningrad. From 1982 to 1989, David and his ensemble collaborated with the Lenkoncert company, which allowed them to establish a systematic tour activity. They played their program in many corners of the USSR and abroad, performances invariably passed with sold-out performances. The program consisted of two sections: in the first ensemble performed many famous instrumental works, and in the second the main role was assigned to the soloist - Elvira Trafova. This structure of the concert program was unique for the Russian scene. In 1989, the only Russian jazz philharmonic society was opened in Leningrad, in which the "home" performer was a group of David, who happened to take part in concerts of many famous jazzmen. And today David Semenovich works in the Philharmonic Society, holds there the annual competition "Autumn Marathon" for beginners and the festival "Swing of the White Night". In 1989, for the first time Goloshchekin with a stunning success toured the US - the birthplace of jazz. At the end of the 90s the team "The Old Jazz Trio" was formed in Novosibirsk, with which Goloshchekin gives concerts, when it happens in the capital of Siberia, and it happens at least once a year. In the beginning of the 21st century another regular form of performances appeared: pair concerts. David Goloshchekin and Nikolai Sizov, two outstanding pianists, play jazz in the duet with the program "Four Hands". Such concerts require a special feeling of the ensemble and the coherence of the duo.

Discography

His first CD Goloshchekin with the ensemble records back in 1972. Then almost every year solo and prefabricated records are released, in which the musician takes part. In total, he has about 30 disks. The "Favorites" CD of 2004 became a real bestseller of such an artist as David Goloshchekin. "When the violin of a gypsy cries" is a work that literally all fans of Russian jazz know. In addition to working with his ensemble, the jazzman more than once participated in recordings with other collectives: "The Old Jazz Trio", Weinstein Orchestra, G. Goldstein's collective. Several discs with the performance of jazz Goloshchekin came out in the West.

Composer's creativity

David Goloshchekin, whose biography for more than 60 years associated with jazz, could not help trying to write music. The first arrangements he created in the 60's of the 20th century. Later, in the programs of his ensemble, his interpretations of great compositions often sound. As an author of his own music, Goloshchekin is often in demand in the theater and cinema. In 1987, he wrote music for the play "Suicide" of the Theater. A. Pushkin. In 1999, director S. Spivak invites David to take part in the play "Two on a swing," where the musician appeared in three ways: a composer, a saxophonist and an actor. His music sounds in four films, and in four films he played small roles, although, according to him, he absolutely does not like acting.

Work on the radio

David Goloshchekin began to broadcast the "Jazz Kaleidoscope" radio station at the station "Radio Petersburg" in 1995 and continues to go out weekly with her. Since 2011, he has been conducting the program "All This Jazz" at the station "Radio Hermitage". For several years he conducted a program with the same name on Radio Rocks. In all programs Goloshchekin puts records from his richest music library and talks about the great jazzmen, many of whom he knew personally.

Personal life

Jazzman David Goloshchekin, whose personal life interests many people, is one of the most mysterious musicians. He categorically refuses to talk about his family, about the details of his private life, his interests and hobbies. He is often credited with family relations with the soloist of the ensemble, which he directs, Elvira Trafova. And Goloshchekin himself categorically refutes this fact. This is a rare case when he definitely talks about his personal life. Only close friends knew who the wife of a jazzman was. But it is clear that Goloshchekin's family was. But not so long ago he was a widower.
