Dark urine in pregnant women. What to do?

Urine in an absolutely healthy person is transparent, has no sharp odor, and color is closer to the color of the straw. Naturally, it can change its shade a little because of taking medicines or food that "color" it. After their effects cease, the color also returns to light yellow. If a dark urine suddenly appears, it is recommended that you immediately consult a doctor, as this may be one of the signs of serious illness or complications. Under special control, this should be "kept" in pregnant women.

But before you start to panic and "beat alarm", it is recommended to consider the following factors:

  • The urine of a pregnant woman should not change color. Therefore, she needs to constantly monitor any color changes, in time to prevent not only the development of the disease, but also the appearance of complications.
  • In the event that a urine of dark yellow color appeared for a day or two, and then it became normal, then you should not worry. This can occur due to a number of factors. Dark urine may appear due to the consumption of medicines and, especially, vitamins. Among the food products that can color it, allocate: sweets, rhubarb, fruit, berries, dried fruits, some vegetables, beans, beef.

Therefore, for the beginning it is recommended to compare when the dark urine appeared and the above products and preparations were taken. But, if it becomes clear that these are disparate things, then you should immediately contact a gynecologist. Especially, if there is also a different smell with the color change.

It is necessary to understand, in what cases at the pregnant woman the urine of dark color is dangerous. The reasons can be the following:

  1. If this phenomenon occurs only in the mornings, and during the day the symptoms practically disappear, then it is recommended to pay attention to the drinking regimen. Most likely, the woman drinks a little. After sleep, urine is always darker, because at night the bladder is not emptied. But, if it also gets smaller, it can be dehydrated. A woman needs to adjust the fluid intake regimen and observe changes in the intensity of urine color.
  2. Dark urine may occur with hepatitis. It is necessary to pay attention to a change in the color of the stool, which turns white. With this combination, a pregnant woman should urgently consult a doctor, as this disease can seriously harm not only the mother, but also the child.
  3. Edema is also accompanied by a darkening of urine. In the event that you start this phenomenon and treat it negligently, then after a while the gestosis may develop. This is a very serious complication.
  4. Among other things, dark urine in pregnant women appears as a result of constipation and liver problems. In the latter case, its color becomes similar to the color of dark beer, the smell changes significantly more pronounced and unpleasant.
  5. Such a sign may be a symptom of anemia.

But, as a rule, dark urine in pregnant women is the main sign that there are problems with the kidneys. Apparently, they stop "coping" and can not perform their functions well. If the reason is still this, then pay special attention to the following recommendations:

  • It is necessary to remove salt from the food to help the body cope with such a serious burden as pregnancy.
  • An important mode is the use of liquid. When a dark urine appears, a woman or a little drink, so dehydration appears and the body is not sufficiently "washed". Or, on the contrary, it consumes too much liquid, so the kidneys can not cope with this. The daily rate of fluid should be set by the doctor.

Follow the basic rules and be healthy!
