Danilovskaya embankment: a trip around Moscow

One of the most attractive centers of tourism is undoubtedly Moscow. The districts of the city are so diverse and interesting each in its own way that the journey through them can take many weeks.

Some areas are attracted by historical monuments of a religious nature, others - by the history of industrial objects. Still others are interesting to see from the point of view of architecture, both historical and modern.

On the Moscow River - a large number of embankments. This is not surprising. Moscow River not only moved to the name of the city, but also became the reason for its creation. However, like most settlements, Moscow was built at the intersection of rivers. To build an ancient settlement, this was a convenient place. The river could serve as the wet nurse and protector of the people inhabiting it.

Famous street

Traveling in Moscow can take more than a week. After all, the city has many fascinating places. Of interest is also this in general, quite a small street on the bank of the Moscow River - Danilovskaya embankment. It is located in the Southern Administrative District. The boundaries of the SAD Moscow were determined in 1995 by order of the mayor of the city. The area that adjoins the embankment is also called Danilovsky. All names are interrelated. They originate from the Danilovsky monastery and the settlement, which once was in this place. It is believed that this embankment of the Moscow River has its history from the nineteenth century. The sources mentioned for the first time in the middle of the fifteenth. In 1627 in the scribe book it was noted that Danilovskaya Sloboda has twenty-eight yards and approximately forty or sixty souls.

Danilovskaya embankment extends from Poveletskaya embankment to Zheleznodorozhny passage. This street attracts primarily by the fact that here you can simply stroll along the river, breathe the cool river air.

In addition, Danilovskaya embankment (Moscow) has its historical past, as it extends where the medieval road that once led the travelers to the Kremlin from the south side passed. The road along with the ferries across the Moscow River protected the Danilovsky Monastery - one of the most notable places of the embankment - from the invasion of enemies. The settlement here existed long before the appearance of the temple.

Danilovsky Monastery (Moscow)

City districts not all can boast of such ancient buildings. Danilovsky Monastery was founded in the eleventh century by Prince Daniel - the son of the legendary Alexander Nevsky. The prince ruled for thirty years, was very pious and, before his death, took tonsure. He bequeathed to bury him in the monastery wall, which was done subsequently.

This happened in 1303. A few years later the monastery was moved to the Kremlin, and then the Novospassky Monastery was founded, while the buildings of Danilovsky came to desolation. The grave of the prince was abandoned. But the common people did not forget about it. It was rumored that those parishioners who visited the grave of the prince were healed of various diseases. It was this rumor that was the starting point for the revival of the Danilov Monastery. In the times of Ivan the Terrible and on his orders he was restored, and Prince Daniel was ranked as a saint.

Danilovsky Monastery in our time

In Soviet times, the Danilovsky Monastery was closed. As well as in other monasteries of the country, it housed a colony for juvenile criminals, many buildings were destroyed. Only at the end of the last century the monastery was again given to the church and rebuilt.

Now it looks the same as in the nineteenth century. It currently operates the Church of the Holy Fathers of the Seven Ecumenical Councils, built in the middle of the fourteenth century, the refectory of the Intercession Church, built in the second half of the seventeenth century, the northern limit (nineteenth century building), Trinity Cathedral (first half of the nineteenth century).

In September of the ninety-seventh year of the last century, Tula Square was decorated with a monument to Prince Daniel of Moscow and a chapel. Particles of the relics of the prince are kept in the Trinity Cathedral.

Danilovsky Monastery is the most important attraction, which has the Danilovskaya embankment. The rest of the buildings are mostly industrial or commercial. He first built a small handicraft enterprise, which later developed into a huge industrial manufactory with a full cycle of work.

First, an enterprise was built for two hundred machines, four years later, two hundred more were added. In 1872, the manufactory employed seven hundred and fifty people. Textile production Mescherina was one of the most advanced in the country at that time. By the beginning of the twentieth century, it was already an enterprise for more than a thousand machines and a thousand two hundred workers. Then the manufactory opened and a network of its stores throughout the country. Moreover, Meshcheryakov not only gave work to people, but also taught. Many workers received a qualified education, studied for spinners, dyers, engravers. They sought out talented children and taught their profession of artists in the tissues.

Infrastructure

For the workers, a polyclinic, a maternity hospital, a nursery and even a theater were opened. The factory had its own dining rooms. This was bearing fruit. The workers worked with pleasure and took pride of place. In 1900 international recognition came. The enterprise began to supply products to the Persian shah. After the revolution, the manufactory was nationalized and turned into a cotton factory named after Frunze. In the post-perestroika period, the historical name was returned. At the moment there is a business center on the territory of the factory.

Residential houses Danilovskaya embankment has almost no, but nevertheless lived here one of the most famous Russian linguists Vadim Mikhailovich Solntsev, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, wrote many works on the languages of Southeast Asia.

Bridge

The name "Danilovsky" now has even a bridge that crosses the Moskva River on the embankment of the same name. Although the historic name of the bridge is Alekseevsky. Initially, it was named in honor of the Crown Prince Alexei. It has three spans and is the longest of all Moskvoretsky bridges of the district railway. In Soviet times was called Kozhukhovsky, and in the post-perestroika period - Danilovsky. In the nineties of the last century it was reconstructed, many details and designs were replaced with new ones.
