Repression is a measure of state impact on society

The history of mankind has been counted thousands of years, but at any time of development people had to be managed in order to maintain the necessary integrity of society. The formation of power institutions, the turbulent process of social stratification, the unpopularity of individual measures in the eyes of the population - all this caused an impact such as repression. This punishment allowed the state to consolidate the public system to its own interests.

The importance of punitive organs for power

In general, the enforcement apparatus has been given much attention since ancient times, otherwise it would be impossible to preserve the order and effective development of the country. It is indisputable that at different historical stages the significance of punitive organs either increased or, on the contrary, decreased, but their presence is an indispensable condition for the emergence and existence of the state. Having made a brief excursion into history, it can be noted that the activity of the repressive apparatus is increasing at critical moments, be it revolutions, wars, mass acts of disobedience of the civilian population. Suffice it to recall the periods of the two revolutions of 1917 in Russia. At this time, the punitive measures took an unprecedented scale, and otherwise it was impossible, because the Civil War began, and whoever seizes power will determine the subsequent development of the country. Therefore, from both opposing sides an effective measure of influence was used, such as repression. This allowed for the loyalty of the population, although often it was only superficial.

The tricks of JV Stalin

The further course of events in our country showed the necessity for the existence of a branched and well-trained personnel of the punitive apparatus. The victory in the Civil War and the presence of a large number of opposition members of different nationalities made the need for a qualified protective system a vital necessity for the Bolsheviks. In addition, in the struggle for power between party functionaries, such a trouble-free method as repression has always been used. This became a distinctive sign of the government of Stalin. Having subordinated to himself the power block of the Bolshevik government, he was able to turn it to his full advantage. With the help of a set of measures of a violent nature, Joseph Vissarionovich cleared his way to the supreme power after the death of Lenin. "Leader of all peoples" was well aware of the need to have executors of his will at hand, he also realized that not everyone would obey him out of goodwill, so he created a real monster of the punitive apparatus of the USSR, he became a united GPU-MGB, which was alternately headed by loyal servants of Koba.

Progress on the bones

Repression in the USSR is becoming truly grandiose in the 30s of the last century. They already began to be applied even in relation to not an individual person, but whole associations, and even peoples. Stalin set a clear goal to suppress even the slightest discontent by eradicating it in the very bud. He did not take into account either the public opinion or the advice of his associates. This policy of the General Secretary of the CPSU (b) can be compared with the oprichnaya policy of Ivan IV, who also applied severe reprisals against dissenting people. If we draw a parallel, it can be noted that in the 16th and 20th centuries, the rulers' goals coincided - to achieve unquestioning obedience. If in the first case the tsar fought against the self-will of the big feudal lords to strengthen the centralization of the country, in the second case the leader tried to rapidly put the country on a par with the industrialized European states, and this can be done by suppressing any manifestation of opposition sentiments in society.

The Soviet way of industrialization

The mass repressions conducted by the Soviet government were brutal, and a simple anonymous letter about any person could have triggered them, that is, bypassing the presumption of innocence in the USSR, they were punished first and then conducted an investigation. So, in the flywheel punitive organs were completely loyal and trustworthy citizens. However, Stalin achieved the final result, in the shortest time the industry was rebuilt, dissatisfaction manifested, in fact, only mentally. "Exposing processes" were rattling throughout the country. Extrajudicial troikas worked day and night to find out the enemies of the people. Repression is what became the style of the government of Joseph Vissarionovich, and he put this way of punishment at the head of all methods of combating public discontent and manifestation of disobedience, both for personal purposes and for the interests of the country.
