Crab sticks: composition, utility and salads with them

What do crab sticks consist of ? Food additives, water, flavors, vegetable oil, sugar and salt, dye, potato starch - this is the list of ingredients included in them, in addition to fish protein, which is the basis of the product "crab sticks". The composition of the incoming products is not very large. It is difficult to poison byproduct - that's for sure. Such cases have not yet been observed.

Crab sticks: utility and ingredients

  1. The most important thing that should be in them is fish or minced fish called "surimi". If the name is not on the first place in the list of products printed on the packaging, go ahead. There are more soybeans here than fish. Crabs in surimi are not included; That they put there - rather substandard or non-commercial fish. Do not be intimidated by the name. At fish processing enterprises (and not in garage co-operatives), the production of pure, established for a certain variety, surimi fish can come across the wrong size or variety, so it is allowed for cans or sticks. In Soviet times from such a fish did "Tourist breakfast".
  2. So, the second product in sticks: starch. The product is good, it does not represent any danger from itself, it is made from natural potatoes. It is added in order to increase the elasticity of the product, the binding of fish protein and good consistency. But it should not exceed the value of 10%, otherwise the consistency of the plastic turns into brittle and dry.
  3. A small layer of dyed dough covers the surface of the usual product crab sticks. Ingredients: water, flour, and dyes added. Producers conscientious add a natural dye, without sacramental attribution: "identical to natural."
  4. The dye derived from paprika and carmine has that color when mixed, which we see when buying a product (mixing orange and crimson). This dye has the designation E160. Such a dye is not only not harmful, it is useful for a person.
  5. Red algae are the source of another thickener - carrageenans. They are obtained by processing and drying algae belonging to the class Rhodophyceae, which have long been known for their not only useful, but also healing properties. In sticks, algae prevent the separation of excess water during freezing, possessing gelling properties. When adding algae to crab sticks, their composition improves. They help to remove heavy metals from the body, have the ability to protect the human body: antiviral, anticoagulant, anticancer, in addition, help the stomach in the fight against peptic ulcer diseases.
  6. Sodium glutamate is the leader among spices, is added to almost all canned foods, most importantly - do not exceed the E-621 standard, this taste enhancer, which it is. In natural products, it is found in the freshest meat and freshly picked vegetables from the vegetable garden. Therefore, fresh vegetables are so wonderful to smell and have unsurpassed taste.

We make wands ourselves

If the ingredients listed above do not inspire confidence, you can cook crab sticks on your own. Composition:

  • A pancilogram of fish fillets (for example, cod).
  • Shrimps peeled - 200 grams.
  • Dry sea kale (you can replace canned canned) - two table spoons.
  • Starch and paprika ground - two spoons (table).

Preparation: through a meat grinder, skip fish ( fresh fish ) and sea kale. If the meat grinder is mechanical, do the procedure twice. In a mixer or blender, mix shrimp, starch dilute with slightly chilled boiling water. All the mix, mix and put on a water bath. Stir the mixture for 30 minutes.

Lay the mass on a table or board, give it a shape, which then it will be easy to cut into pieces. Put in the fridge for freezing.

Salad with crab sticks

An hour later, you can make a salad. The composition of the salad of crab sticks called "It's easier for now!": Take crab sticks, corn from the can, add crunches, steep chopped eggs in the amount of two pieces, pour greens, a little pepper for sharpness, mayonnaise-salad is ready!

You can vary this composition to infinity, including one and excluding the other. What can I add? Rice, sweet pepper (and bitter), smoked fish, boiled shrimps, marinated mushrooms, cucumbers, both fresh and salted. The name, too, come up with yourself and do not forget that the main thing in food is the mood!
