Consider engine 402

It's hard to say when exactly the 402 engine announced itself. Its predecessors began to be manufactured in the mid-fifties, from which it received a lot, including the simplicity and reliability of the design. Its repair can be carried out in an ordinary garage, having only a basic set of tools. Naturally, the repair of the engine 402 must be carried out in a clean workplace, especially if it is a capital workplace. I must say that its resource, unlike other domestic units, slightly exceeded 50,000 km of run, so it was so popular.

Since the beginning of production, the 402 engine has been installed on the Volga model, then it has moved to the Gazelle, where it has become quite comfortable thanks to its excellent characteristics. Here they are not limited to a volume of 2.5 liters or a capacity of 100 horsepower. The fact is that in combination with the gearbox and the bridge, which were mounted on this car, it had ideal traction properties, which in no way affected the fuel consumption. Of course, many may find that for an average truck 12 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers is a lot, but the owners did not think so.

Naturally, there are no ideal engines, and there are drawbacks. The biggest one is a stuffing on the rear crankshaft bearing, which is a felt impregnated with graphite. In addition, for strength in the structure is inserted a thin bronze wire. Thus, when the engine reaches 3000 revolutions or more, the engine simply throws out the oil, so you have to constantly monitor its level. Many owners believe that the engine 402 can be fixed by replacing this stuffing from another car and filling it with semisynthetic oil: so, somebody helps this method, some do not.

Another disadvantage of the 402 engine is its valve mechanism, which has a lower camshaft arrangement. There are a lot of mating parts, so the bars with the pushers create a lot of noise, and the violation of the thermal gap in the valve drive is also worth mentioning. Because of this, constant adjustment of the valves is required. 402 engine is capable of very good results. But we are talking about low revs, because this design of the timing has an impressive mass. That's why the revolving engine 402 can not be called.

A person is so arranged that he constantly needs more, no matter how much he has. Therefore, many owners of this "apparatus" are trying to get more power from him, not sparing neither forces, nor money. A vivid example of this desire was the installation of an injector for this motor, as well as the installation of an ignition with ZMZ 406, which is fundamentally different. But all these efforts were not worth the result.

Officially engine 402 was discontinued in 2006. It was replaced by the above-mentioned unit, which surpasses it in all parameters, in addition, 50 years - somehow too much for one model. Of course, there were some changes compared to their predecessors, but they did not become cardinal. But what is there to say, some American companies still practice the production of engines of this type, and details on it can be found in any car dealer, although it's been 7 years already.
