Configuring Windows 10 for maximum performance: step-by-step instructions

As it turns out, last year announced the tenth version of Windows is far from perfect. The factory settings of Windows 10 are such that the system runs a huge number of unused services, and completely unnecessary components are used to the average user. Needless to say, it is possible and necessary to combat this. If you disable all unnecessary, even the Windows 10 key is not needed. Let's dwell on the most important aspects of performance.

Configuring Windows 10 for Maximum Performance: Basics

To begin with, we do not know why the developers of the new system tried to include the maximum of what it is capable of by default. Naturally, on machines corresponding to the minimal configuration, this affects far from being the best way.

If anyone noticed, even at the entrance to the "Computer properties", where the version of the installed system is displayed and the main technical data relating to the processor and RAM, the performance index often has a fairly low rate. Do not build illusions. This is not due to the computer configuration, but only to the fact that the system runs a large number of services and background processes, which give the maximum load on system resources. Now we will consider setting up Windows 10 for maximum performance, more precisely, actions that can reduce the load on the same processor, RAM or even a hard drive.

Turn off visual effects

Some users mistakenly believe that the visual effects in the "top ten", compared with the same "seven", became less. This is an obvious fallacy. Windows 10 imaging mode uses much more. In fact, if you understand thoroughly, it's just a storehouse of effects that affect the RAM quite strongly and take up a lot of space even in the memory of the graphics chip. It begs the most banal question: "Is it possible to get rid of it?" Yes, it is possible, and in the simplest way.

To configure, we use the standard "Start" menu, where we select the system partition, after which we move on to the additional parameters. In the properties window there is an additional settings tab where you should select the item providing the best performance (by default, the best view is provided). It goes without saying that each effect can be turned off alternately. The view, however, will suffer greatly from this, but for too weak machines it can become a fairly good solution to eliminate the problem of reducing the load on system resources.

Disable unused startup services

Now a few words about one of the most important sections. This is autoload. As the name implies, all services and processes are collected here, which start automatically when the operating system is loaded. And many of these components remain unclaimed in the process of work.

At this stage, setting Windows 10 for maximum performance implies their complete disconnection (within reasonable limits, of course).

To enter the startup parameters, use the msconfig command, which is entered in the "Run" menu (Win + R). Here there is a tab with the same name, on which all the automatically downloaded processes are displayed. Disable all that is. You can leave only the antivirus service (if one is installed in the system). All the rest can not be used. Naturally, after preserving the perfect changes, the system will offer to reboot. We agree, and after a second start, we look at how Windows behaves. Better? Yes! But even this is not all.

Disable unnecessary components

Now you should disable the components of Windows 10, which are not included in the section of automatically loaded processes, but use system resources no less. Again, for such a fine-tuning, the Windows 10 key is not needed, however, as for all other actions.

We go to the "Control Panel", where we select the section of programs and components. In the Windows Components menu, disable unused services. For example, the activated Hyper-V module is not needed at all, if the virtual machine is not supposed to be used at the terminal at all. You can easily turn off print services if the printer is not installed, etc. In general, it is necessary to watch and determine the shutdown, based on what is needed in the work, and that it will not be used explicitly.

Disable overwriting of information when exiting hibernation mode

Another issue related to the setting relates to the mode of hibernation, or, more simply, to the "sleeping" state of a computer or laptop with a reduced power consumption. The matter is that the system constantly overwrites the information file, which stores data about all currently open applications. And he, accordingly, can be quite large. In addition, the time of rewriting becomes quite long.

But if we talk about SSD SSDs, they do it very well without it, and a permanently rewritable file is simply not needed. So, it's time to get rid of it. Use the combination of keys Win + X, then select the command line (you can also do this from the "Run" menu with the cmd command). Next, enter the line powercfg -H off and press the Enter key (Enter). The most important thing in this situation is to run the command line on behalf of the admin. Otherwise, nothing happens.

Disable defragmentation

When working with solid-state drives with higher data reading speed, it is recommended to disable background defragmentation (ordering the most frequently used files and called programs with moving to the fastest areas of the hard drive). The speed of work and so on at altitude.

To start, we call the "Run" menu (Win + R), the field of which is the dfrgui command. Next, choose SSD, press the button for changing the parameters, and then uncheck the checkbox from the point of performance of the defragmentation according to the schedule.

Disable indexing

For SSD-drives one should take into account one more important adjustment - indexing. In the active state, it negatively affects the work.

To disable this option, we enter the "Computer" menu, select SSD, use the property section and turn off the setting of the file indexing permission.

Disable update

Quite often, although not always, the system can brake when installing the latest update packages, which, incidentally, are installed in the system is not always correct, which can lead to a complete failure in terms of efficiency. In general, if you look carefully, in most cases it's security updates, less often - specific platforms like the Microsoft .NET Framework, even less often - office products and device drivers.

The service is simply disabled in the updates and security section, which is accessed through the system settings menu.

Disable Windows Defender

Another stumbling block can be called the built-in defender Windows, which appeared in the eighth version. Often, working in the background, it not only affects the same performance index and system performance as a whole, but also "shows off" when installing specific software that requires changing system files and settings, considering it potentially unsafe, although in fact It is not.

To disable this component, we enter the standard "Control Panel" and select the appropriate section to disable. Note that if the system has a regular antivirus, this service will be blocked automatically.

Delete unnecessary files

Another configuration of Windows 10 for maximum performance involves the removal of computer debris in order to provide increased access speed to any type of hard drive. You can, of course, manually delete temporary files from Temp folders, but this is not all that can be done.

And in this case it is better to use the built-in disk cleaning utility. Access to it is done through the right click on the letter of the section with the choice of properties. The window has a tab "General", where the button for activating the cleaning process is located. With all this, check all that are in the box above. In some cases, when you will not return to the previous system, you can also delete its files (which is about 25-30 GB in size).

How to configure Windows 10 for maximum performance: third-party utilities

Finally, one of the most important moments. The Windows 10 registry plays one of the key roles in maximizing performance. Firstly, it's a system boot. If anyone does not know, at startup the system performs its full scan (which, in fact, most recovery methods are based on). The more the register, or rather the number of records and keys in it, the more time is required for the process. Secondly, the registry itself of Windows 10 may contain incorrect or obsolete keys, remaining, say, after the removal of some programs.

It is completely ungrateful to edit records manually. Therefore, many third-party developers have specially created programs to optimize Windows-systems, which correct all errors automatically. In any such complex application, there is a special module for searching for obsolete or erroneous registry entries, and in some of the most advanced utilities, you can also find means to defragment the registry to reduce its volume and accelerate access to it. It works, however, somewhat differently than defragmenting the hard drive, but the point is not this.

Among all that is offered in the modern market for software of this type, it is worth mentioning utilities such as Advanced System Care, AVZ PC Tune Up, Glary Utilities, CCleaner and many others. The user ultimately only needs to press the start buttons to scan the system and fix the detected errors or failures, nothing more. And of course, only the key points related to improving system performance are considered here. Everything is simply impossible to take into account.
